~*~ MAGGIE'S WORLD ~*~
Happy Birthday to Linda, Minnesota !!!
Linda's birthday was November 7. We are
celebrating it late but know the Mags was
thinking of her on her special day.
At work, we're already gearing up for our annual
"Blue Santa" project. That's where we collect food,
new toys, clothes and money for needy families in
our Brazoria County community. The schools and
churches send us referrals of needy families and we
divide up into groups and don't rest until each child
in each family has a sleigh-load of goodies. We do
our best to interview the parents to determine what
each child has on their "wish list". We make EVERY
effort to get them what they want (within reason!).
Then we make sure the family has food for Christmas,
kids have some new clothes, and the children feel as
if their daily plight in life is lessened. We rely on
the generosity of the local businesses, groups and
our own offerings to brighten the season for some
very deserving kids. In your own community there
are hundreds of families whose head of household
will cry because they cannot provide some semblance
of Christmas cheer for their children. Make some
room in your busy schedule for these kiddos! My
own kids have made it a tradition to offer up one
of their own items on their "wish list" for some
less-fortunate child. Believe me, my family could
probably qualify for Blue Santa help but we still
manage to give. Won't you? What a perfect gift
for the Christ child...

~*~ RAMBLINGS ~*~
JeaNette, Melbourne, Australia...
From one woman to another:
Most of you have read the scare-mail about the person whose kidneys were
stolen while he was passed out--- well, read on. While that was an
"urban legend" this one is not. It's happening every day....
My thighs were stolen from me during the night of August 3rd a few years
ago. It was just that quick. I went to sleep in my body and woke up
with someone else's thighs. The new ones had the texture of cooked
oatmeal. Who would have done such a cruel thing to legs that had been
wholly, if
imperfectly, mine for years. Whose thighs were these? What happened to
mine? I spent the entire summer looking for them. I searched, in vain,
at pools and beaches, anywhere I might find female limbs exposed. I
became obsessed. I had nightmares filled with cellulite and flesh that
turns to bumps in the night. Finally, hurt and angry, I resigned myself
to living out my life in jeans and Sheer Energy pantyhose.
Then, just when my guard was down, the thieves struck again. My rear
end was next. I knew it was the same gang because they took pains to
match my new rear end (although badly attached at least three inches
lower than the original) to the thighs they had stuck me with earlier.
Now my rear complimented my legs, lump for lump. Frantic, I prayed that
long skirts would stay in fashion.
It was two years ago when I realized my arms had been switched. One
morning while fixing my hair, I watched, horrified but fascinated, as
the flesh of my upper arms swung to and fro with the motion of the
hairbrush. This was really getting scary. My body was being replaced,
cleverly and fiendishly, one section at a time.
Age? Age had nothing to do with it. Age was supposed to creep up,
unnoticed and intangible, something like maturity. NO, I was being
attacked, repeatedly and without warning. During one spring, my
attention was riveted to upper arms...female arms. I studied them from
every angle, being careful not to raise mine in public or flatten them
too tightly against my body. In private, I held them straight out and
did endless circles that would have tightened my real arms but did
nothing for these new "Silly-Putty" caricatures. In the end, in
deepening despair, I gave up my T-shirts. What could they do to me next?
My eyes began to remind people that they needed a new pair of Hush
Puppies. My poor neck disappeared more quickly than the Thanksgiving
turkey it now reminded me of.
That's why I've decided to tell my story; I can't take on the medical
profession by myself. Women of the world, wake up and smell the coffee!
That isn't really "plastic" those surgeons are using. You know where
they're getting those replacement parts, don't you?
The next time you suspect someone has had a face "lifted," look again!
Was it lifted from you? Check out those tummy tucks and buttocks
raisings. Look familiar? Are those your eyelids on that movie star?
I think I finally may have found my thighs...and I hope that Cindy
Crawford paid a really good price for them! This is NOT a hoax! This
is happening to women in every town every night.
Warn all your friends!!
~*~ HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY? ~*~
Within reason (of course) this section is for you to "vent"
and tell the rest of the membership how you feel. I will post
just about anything that is NOT unkind to the group.
"The week was very long and lonely without Maggie's newsletter. You
brighten everyone’s day you know. We like our on-line friends and admire
all the work you do for us. I want to say that I have tried to go on
some of the shopping site and to rate you, but I can't. They say I am
not allowed. Use to could do that. I am so glad you are back. Maggie and
coffee to start the day is perfect.----Luanne--Fl. "
Luanne, thanks for the sweet sentiments. You certainly started MY day
in a most perfect way! ~Mags~

"My mother loves Caramel Cake. (I admit it, I do too)
However, it has been difficult to find a recipe where
the icing taste like caramel and not butterscotch. It
is a white cake with caramel icing. My grandmother
made a great one but unfortunately she took the recipe
to her grave with her. I would love to make this for
my mom. And Me, too!!
Thanks, in advance,
Katina, Memphis, TN"
Katina, I have included one recipe for you. Perhaps the a2z family
members have more that they feel will suit your request. While I
believe the recipe I am sending will tickle your fancy, perhaps you
should be very careful when preparing the icing; pay special attention
to the temperature of the butter during the first step. If you brown it
before adding the other ingredients, I think you'll end up with a
less-than-desirable flavor. It is through MELTING the butter, adding
sugar and milk, THEN boiling, that the true caramel flavor is achieved.
Good luck!
1-2-3-4 Cake with Caramel Icing
Source: My Mother's Southern Kitchen
Cake:
1 cup butter (2 sticks)
2 cups sugar
3 cups flour
4 eggs -- well beaten
3 teaspoons baking powder
1 cup milk
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
Icing:
1/2 cup butter (1 stick)
1 cup dark brown sugar -- firmly packed
1/4 cup milk
2 cups powdered sugar -- well sifted
Preheat oven 350°. In a large mixing bowl, cream the butter and sugar
together with an electric mixer till smooth, add the eggs and continue
beating till smooth. In a bowl, mix the flour and baking powder together
and add alternately with the milk to the butter mixture, beating
steadily till smooth. Add the vanilla and beat till well blended. Grease
and flour three 9 inch cake pans, divide the batter evenly among the
pans, "spank" the bottom of the pans to distribute the batter evenly,
and bake till a straw inserted in centers comes out clean, 25 to 30
minutes. Let cool completely.
Meanwhile, to make the icing: melt the butter over low heat in a
saucepan, add the brown sugar and milk, bring to a boil, and remove from
the heat to cool. Add the powdered sugar and mix till well blended. When
the cake layers are cooled, remove from the pans, place one layer on a
cake plate, and spread one third of the icing on the layer. Place a
second layer over the icing and spread with more icing. Top with the
third layer and spread icing over the top and around the sides.

The Dead Mule
A Preacher went to his church office on Monday morning and discovered
a dead mule in the church yard. He called the police. Since there did
not appear to be any foul play, the police referred the Preacher to
the health department.
They said since there was no health threat that he should call the
sanitation department. The manager said he could not pick up the mule
without authorization from the mayor.
Now the Preacher knew the mayor and was not to eager to call him. The
mayor had a bad temper and was generally hard to deal with but the
Preacher called him anyway.
The mayor did not disappoint. He immediately began to rant & rave at
the preacher and finally said, "Why did you call me any way? Isn't it
your job to bury the dead?"
The preacher paused for a brief prayer and asked the Lord to direct
his response. He was led to say, "Yes, Mayor, it is my job to bury
the dead, but I always like to notify the next of kin first!"
Rosemarie, KC, MO...
The preacher, in his Sunday sermon, used "Forgive Your Enemies" as his
subject. After a long sermon, he asked how many were willing to forgive
their enemies. About half held up their hands.
Not satisfied he harangued for another twenty minutes and repeated his
question. This time he received a response of about 80 percent.
Still unsatisfied, he lectured for another 15 minutes and repeated his
question.
With all thoughts now on Sunday dinner, all responded except one elderly
lady in the rear. "Mrs. Jones, are you not willing to forgive your
enemies?" "I don't have any."
"Mrs. Jones, that is very unusual. How old are you?" "Ninety-three."
"Mrs. Jones, please come down in front and tell the congregation how a
person can live to be ninety-three, and not have an enemy in the world."
The little sweetheart of a lady tottered down the aisle, very slowly
turned around and said: "It's easy, I just outlived the bitches.

8 oz butter
8 oz dark chocolate
2 eggs
1 oz sugar
8 oz Graham crackers ( crushed)
Attempt to finish all three stages roughly simultaneously:
1. melt the butter 2. beat the eggs and add the sugar 3. melt the
chocolate
A microwave helps...
Now, add eggs/sugar to butter and stir. Add chocolate and stir - it
looks revolting at this stage. Add biscuits/cookies, stir frantically -
the aim is to get it all thoroughly mixed before the chocolate sets.
Turn out into suitable container, deposit in refrigerator, allow to set
properly. Serve with double cream.
For total decadence, make a second batch with white chocolate and either
(a) pour on top of the set first batch to give layers or (b) pour on
half-set first batch and stir to give marbled effect.
