The ABC List for April 2007

Welcome to the newest monthly edition of the ABC List. The ABC List
serves 645 professional communicators.

This newsletter is a forum for accredited communicators, but more
importantly, those communicators interested in learning more about
becoming accredited, the value of accreditation and the process to
attain accreditation. If you have a question, a topic for discussion or
something you’d like to see in the ABC List, e-mail onu-@iabc.com.

If your chapter is holding a workshop, fun shop, exam prep session, exam
date, pinning ceremony or the like, let me know and I’ll publicize your
event here in the ABC List.

*** Accreditation Completion Program in China

On 24 April 2007, the International Association of Business
Communicators (IABC) signed an agreement with the Shanghai Public
Relations Association (SPRA) to bring the accreditation program to
China. As part of the agreement, a select group of highly qualified SPRA
members who are interested in earning the ABC designation will be
mentored by ABCs from around the world. They will attend rigorous
training sessions to develop their portfolios for review and prepare for
the four-hour written and half-hour oral examinations. This will be a
multi-year process that will confer IABC accreditation on qualified SPRA
members and train volunteers to administer the program for other local
communicators in China.

*** Upcoming Teleseminar: “Preparing for Your Accreditation Exam”

There’s still time to register for the upcoming teleseminar! The session
will focus on providing you with an in-depth understanding of how to
prepare in order to successfully complete the four-hour written and
half-hour oral exam. It is designed to take the mystery (and much of the
anxiety) out of the process and will provide insights into preparing for
the exam, as well as managing your time (and your mind!) during testing.

This teleseminar is designed for anyone who is already an accreditation
candidate, but has value to anyone considering entering the
accreditation process.

Details:
When: Thursday, 3 May 2007
Hours: 8-9 a.m. PACIFIC STANDARD TIME and 4-5 p.m. PACIFIC STANDARD
TIME. You may select the 8 a.m. or 4 p.m. session when you register.
Registration Deadline: Wednesday, 2 May 2007 at 3:00 p.m. (PST).

Presenters: Eric Bergman, ABC, APR, MC, chair of IABC's international
accreditation council and Mark W. Estes, ABC, director of examiners.

*** Upcoming IABC International Conference Accreditation Exam

The deadline to register for the next IABC International Conference
Accreditation Exam is 1 June 2007. The exam will be held on 23 June
2007, from 1-6pm, at the Hilton New Orleans Riverside in New Orleans,
Louisiana. To sign up for the exam, please contact Olivia Nucum at
onu-@iabc.com.

Further information regarding the International Conference is available
at: http://www.iabc.com/ic/.

*** ABC Coaches

ABC Coaches are available for those who are pondering the idea of taking
on accreditation and candidates who are currently going through the
accreditation process. If your local chapter is unable to provide you
with a mentor, IABC can provide you with a Virtual Coach. To sign up
for a mentor, please visit:
http://www.iabc.com/abc/abcProCan.htm#abcVirtualMentor and submit your
completed form to Olivia Nucum at onu-@iabc.com.

For those who are already ABCs and want to become involved in the
accreditation process as coaches, the Application Form for Accreditation
Coaches is available at: http://www.iabc.com/abc/pdf/virtualmentor.pdf.

*** Reminder: ABC Ambassadors – Call for Nominations

The IABC Accreditation program is successful because of the dedication
of dozens of volunteers who work at all levels of the organization. The
IABC Accreditation Council invites you to nominate an ABC you know who
gives generously of his or her time and talent to help other
communication professionals earn their ABC.

Tell us about the ABC you would like to nominate as an Accreditation
Ambassador. Please contact Olivia Nucum at onu-@iabc.com to obtain the
ABC Ambassador Nomination Form. If selected as an ABC Ambassador, your
candidate will be recognized at a special reception held on Sunday, June
24, at the International Conference in New Orleans. Deadline for
nominations is 7 May 2007.

All ABCs who volunteer in the accreditation program are eligible, except
members of the Council. Self-nominations are accepted, so don't be shy.
