Most headlines that win headline contests read like they were written
for headline contests. "Pun" headlines by definition cannot be applied
well; they constitute the No. 1 sin of headline writing, which is to
draw attention to the headline, not the story.
Klever headlines offend the sophisticated, perplex the simple-minded and
annoy most of the rest, to the degree they are noticed at all.
I realize I am in the minority on this.

Meanwhile, let's not bore everyone else any longer!
