Plant the seeds for Heartland ACES

To all copy editors in Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska and Oklahoma...
If you're going to Cleveland and you run into one of your newspaper neighbors, talk about what you think the Heartland chapter of ACES can become.
I had hoped to join you all in Cleveland to talk about the creation of Heartland ACES. Instead, I'll be at a good friend's wedding reception several hundred miles away, raising a toast from the open bar in your direction.
Great ideas often stem from a conversation and a cocktail napkin. Brainstorm at the bar, jot down your thoughts and send me any ideas you have. Talk to members of other regional chapters and compare notes. Ask about first steps and pitfalls. There is too much creative energy gathered this weekend to pass up this opportunity to learn.
If we can harness the excitement of the national conference and bring it home to our papers and our readers, each of our desks will be a better place to work.
Take care, have fun and please send me notes with the grandest of schemes and the tiniest of details, incomplete thoughts and incoherent ramblings.
