Hi,
This info should appear on the web site anyday now. But you'll be the
first to see the schedule for MCJ scheduled for Feb. 28 to Mar. 2, 2003
at the Somerset in in Troy, Mi. There will be shuttle info updates to
for those of you flying into town for it this year. Looking to see if
someone will let be rent a shuttle bus for the weekend but if not I've
collected a couple of responsibly priced shuttle for small groups. So
read what follwoing and please pass it along. The more the merrier.

This year’s event will be held at the Somerset Inn, 2601 W. Big Beaver
in Troy, Michigan. Call 1-800-228-8769 or 248-643-7800 to get the Motor
City Jam discount rate of $90 + tax for a single or double room. The
hotel is located just west of the I-75 expressway near Coolidge. Check
website for updated info on airport shuttles.
MCJ is pleased to have two rooms open for dancing at our evening
parties. The West Coast room will feature champion dancer Andrea Deaton
as it’s late night DJ.
MCJ welcomes Paulette Brockington, Jason Christodoulou, John Lindo. Rob
Quizon, Charlie and Linda Reese, Jennifer Salvadori, Sylvia Sykes, Mike
Topel and Justin Zillman to the Detroit area to teach. Schedule can be
found on the web site after Jan. 18.
Learn To Swing Dance Intensive
This series of classes is a slam dunk introduction to swing dancing.
After one 3-hour session MCJ promises to have you up and out dancing on
the dance floor for the Saturday night dance party.
Competition Notes
All competitors must have a weekend pass and complete contest entry
forms. A contest entry form may be found at the bottom of the Motor City
Jam Registration Form. A form may also be found online at
http://artspectrum.org/mcj.htm or by writing askarts-@yahoo.com.
Competitors are judged on timing, technique, teamwork, difficulty,
contrast and innovation of movements used.
Division rules are as follows:
Strictly Lindy – Lindy’s social dancing at its best
Pro/Am – An amateur partners with a professional. Only the amateur
is judged.
ALHC East Region Preliminary – A qualifier for ALHC’s American
Showcase Semi-finals. Couples dance a slow and a fast round
Blues – No swing dancing allowed. Couples may dance to any style of
Blues music except Jump Blues.
Showtime – Last year’s Classic and Showcase divisions have been
combined into one exciting division. All styles of swing are
allowed along with all forms of lifts, drops, air steps
however they are not required.
Strictly Swing – West Coast/Carolina Shag social dancing at it’s best
Jack & Jill – West Coast and Lindy Leaders and followers have a blind
draw on a partner. 2 contests
Since Artspectrum is a member of the World Swing Dance Council Jack and
Jill competitors’ points will be tracked by the Registry. There is a $1
surcharge for participation/inclusion.
