NATO, Ukraine, Israel Continue To Arm Georgia For New Conflicts

Ukraine didn=E2=80=99t stop weapon supply to Georgia=20
The supply of the Georgian army with weapons and military equipment from Uk=
raine continues uninterrupted, says Lieutenant General Alexander Shlyakhtur=
ov, Head of Russia=E2=80=99s Main Intelligence Directorate.
=E2=80=9CAccording to our data, Georgia continues to receive military assis=
tance from the NATO countries, Israel and Ukraine like it was before the ev=
ents of August, 2008. The NATO states, especially the new Eastern European =
members, are supplying Georgia mostly with firearms and equipment. The US i=
s training Georgian personnel in accordance with NATO tactics. Israel suppl=
ies Georgia with unmanned aircraft and Ukraine delivers heavy weaponry, inc=
luding tanks and air defense systems,=E2=80=9D Shlyakhturov told ITAR-TASS =
news agency.
=E2=80=9CIn order to cover them, Ukraine's arms supplies to Georgia are car=
ried out outside official state channels, but not without the knowledge and=
higher patronage of the Ukrainian leadership,=E2=80=9D he stressed.
Back in July, the CEO of Ukrainian state-owned Ukrspetsexport company, Serg=
ey Bondarchuk, said Ukraine has delivered weapons to Georgia and will conti=
nue doing so until the UN Security Council issues any prohibition decision =
on those actions.
He confirmed the fact of supplies of air defense systems, helicopters, infa=
ntry fighting vehicles and firearms, saying that =E2=80=9CEverything was ab=
solutely legal, on the basis of documents agreed to and received from the s=
ecurity services=E2=80=9D.
And the Chairman of the Ukrainian Parliament=E2=80=99s investigative commis=
sion =E2=80=9COn issues of clarifying and establishing the facts of supplie=
s to Georgia Ukrainian military equipment in violation of Ukrainian legisla=
tion and international law=E2=80=9D, Valery Konovalyuk, said that Georgia h=
ad received Ukrainian weapons used in the attack on South Ossetia with the =
knowledge and on behalf of Ukraine=E2=80=99s president, Viktor Yushchenko.
"Modern air defense systems are being withdrawn from deployment and sold fo=
r peanuts to the Georgian Army. Since the conflict between Georgia and Sout=
h Ossetia in 2008, Ukraine has been delivering arms and combat vehicles to =
Georgia,=E2=80=9D Valery Konovaluk said.
