US-Georgian military exercises finished=20
The joint US-Georgian military training Immediate Response has ended.=20
The military exercise aimed at preparing Georgian troops to participate in =
the ISAF operation in Afghanistan was ongoing for two weeks at the Vaziani =
military Base.
On Saturday the training's closing ceremony was organized at the base. In t=
he course of the event, successful soldiers were awarded with certificates =
and presents.
The exercise is designed to promote the interoperability of Georgian troops=
with NATO standards during the International Security Assistance mission i=
n Afghanistan.=20
At this phase of the training, Georgian military personnel undertook the pr=
eparatory trainings especially for counter-insurgency operations. Georgian =
servicemen will carry out their mission side by side with American soldiers=
.=20
`The United States expresses its appreciation for Georgia=E2=80=99s strong =
commitment to participate voluntarily in the most crucial peacekeeping oper=
ation in Afghanistan,` the official statement issued by the United States E=
mbassy to Georgia says.=20
The Ministry of Defense of Georgia reiterated its position in the previous =
days regarding the intended involvement of Georgian military personnel in t=
he ISAF operation.=20
