AFTER 32 YEARS, UFW CALLS SECOND BOYCOTT OF COMPANY
[From the United Farm Workers <http://www.ufw.org>]

The United Farm Workers (UFW) union has called its second boycott of
Gallo wine in 32 years. Hundreds of farm workers and supporters kicked
off the new international boycott on Tuesday, 14 Jun 2005, on the steps
of San Francisco City Hall.

The aim is to convince America's wealthiest winemaking family to do the
responsible thing by stopping the exploitation of Gallo workers.

The Gallos deny the majority of their farmworkers benefits and grievance
rights. According to the UFW, the Gallos abuse and cheat these workers,
and deny them benefits, job protections, and humane living conditions in
the heart of California's fabled wine country.

Following a strategy typical of abusive U.S. employers, the Gallos say
they have no responsibility for the miserable conditions endured by
their vineyard employees because they are "temporary workers."
