TELL CALIFORNIA WINE ASSOCIATION YOU OBJECT TO ITS CHOICE OF
ANTI-LABOR WINERY TO HOST ITS 2005 GOURMET GATHERING
[From the United Farm Workers <http://www.ufw.org>]
On Saturday, 16 Jul 2005, thousands of wine connoisseurs will sample
fine wine and gourmet food as part of the Sonoma County Showcase at the
MacMurray Ranch, owned by Gallo of Sonoma. The Sonoma County Wineries
Association, which sponsors this exclusive event, should pick another
winery to showcase.
The Gallos refuse to provide any benefits or grievance rights to the
great majority of their vineyard workers in Sonoma County and pay wages
that are lower than those paid by other area wine-grape growers.
According to the United Farm Workers, the Gallos abuse, cheat, and deny
these workers benefits, job protections, and humane living conditions.
The Gallos say they have no responsibility for the miserable conditions
endured by these employees because they are "temporary" workers supplied
by farm-labor contractors.

The UFW called its second boycott of Gallo wine on 14 Jun 2005. Already,
thousands have pledged to boycott all Gallo wines until the industry
giant negotiates a fair and just union contract.
Please e-mail the Sonoma County Wineries Association. Tell its leaders
to take a stand for local vineyard workers. Ask them why they want their
festival linked with Gallo's exploitative behavior. Is that the image
they want people to associate with the Sonoma County wine industry?
