ACTIVISTS THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY ARE SEEKING MEETINGS
TO TELL THEIR SENATORS & REPS TO CURB BUSH EXCESSES
[From the American Civil Liberties Union <http://www.aclu.org>]
While Congress is in recess this week, legislators are in their home
districts meeting with constituents. Activists across the country are
seeking meetings in their offices and "bird-dogging" them at events,
raising questions about President Bush's illegal spying programs and
other affronts to civil liberties, and demanding that Congress rein in
an out-of-control Administration.
The Bush White House has shown an alarming and reckless disregard for
the rule of law. The National Security Agency has been directed to
wiretap Americans without a warrant -- a program that continues despite
a federal court finding that it's unconstitutional. The Administration
has violated long-standing treaties designed to protect basic human
rights, ignoring the Constitution's declaration that treaties are "the
highest Law of the Land."
Federal lawmakers need to hear from you that these actions are
unacceptable and that we can be both safe AND free.
With support from the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), you can
help turn the tide and reclaim our Constitutional rights. Instructions
and talking points are provided on the ACLU's Web site, as well as a
sample phone script for registering your views by telephone.
