Congress: Stand for the Constitution  Progressive Portal
 Oct 16, 2007 16:00 PDT

IN ONE OF SEVERAL KEY VOTES SOON, CONGRESS TO DECIDE WHETHER
TO EXTEND LAW GIVING BUSH MORE SPYING POWERS WITHOUT OVERSIGHT
[From the American Civil Liberties Union <http://www.aclu.org>]

It's time to demand that Congress stop caving in to the Bush
Administration's underhanded scare tactics and stand up for the
Constitution.

Starting with critical House votes this week on warrantless
eavesdropping and moving on to action on torture, habeas corpus and
Guantánamo Bay, we must drive home to every member of Congress -- no
matter how progressive or conservative -- that Americans want them to
stand for our freedoms and stand up to the Bush Administration.

There's simply too much at stake to let Congress off the hook and
cave-in to fear from the Bush Administration. That's why we must keep
the pressure on, and tell them "Don't Wait for '08" to restore our
freedoms.

Take Action
-----------------------------------

Six months ago, Congress gave the Bush Administration new, excessive
authority to engage in spying without court approval. That bill is about
to expire. Tell Congress not to renew it:
