On this date, May 31, in the year...

1918: 6th MGB, less the Supply Train, assembles 4.30 a.m. at the
junction of the Beaugrenier-Dieppe-Paris roads where, at 9 am, they
will board camions for the new area. Appenheimer, who is apparently
still temporarily attached to the teamsters of 77th Company, remains
behind in Beaugrenier for the time being. He writes: "Company left at
day break..."    The Battalion Supply Train and company teamsters are
scheduled to rendezvous at Chars (some 12 km SE of Beaugrenier) at 2
p.m., but Appenheimer records that it is 2 p.m. before he leaves
Beaugrenier and nightfall before he reaches Chars. In the meantime,
according to the 6th MGB HISTORY, the teamsters of 77th Company
entrained at 4.30, an hour before (according to the 2d Division
Entraining Table) their train was due to pull out. In fact, of 50
trains promised to the Division, only 32 arrived and it is probable
that the roads into Chars were jammed with divisional supply wagons
and animals unable to board on schedule. In the end, many of these
supply trains would be forced to march to the new area by road. Two
trains had been reserved for the 6th MGB supply trains and, although
delayed, both trains, with animals, wagons & teamsters aboard, pull
out sometime that night, heading eastward.
Appenheimer's diary entry reads: "Company left (Beaugrenier) at
day break in motor trucks, and muleteers left (Beaugrenier) at 2
o'clock. Hike till night and entrain at (Chars)."

1919: AR Appenheimer still at Quantico, Virginia.
