Last Sunday Jack and I took a long leisurely walk at Horn Pond and recorded
17 species of birds, mostly birds like Cardinals, a pair of Song Sparrows, a

Mockingbird who nests in the Rehab Parking lot every year. In the Farmer's
Pond we saw a Gadwell, a pair of Common Mergansers, a fairly large number of

Ringed whatevered Ducks, and some Hoodies. The Phoebe by the bridge wasn't
back, and there weren't that many bugs to attract it.

Today, what a difference! I didn't pay attention to commoners of any
sorts,
but couldn't escape noticing a territorial scuffle between two male
Cardinals.   Coming into the parking lot
I almost killed the Mockingbird who lives there; he flew in front of the
car
about 4 feet, maybe less from me.   Back on the hill I heard a Flicker -
welcome back. Over at the Farmer's pond I saw a Tree Swallow and a
Killdeer - a new
delight. The only ducks in the pond were Mallards. Where did the others go
-
to their nesting grounds?
And Swans - one of whom aggressively tried for my sandwich coming within 3
feet. I enjoyed full bodied Song Sparrow song. The reason I paid almost no
attention to commoners and birds singing is that I was picking up rubbish, 4
Market Basket bags Sunday, 8 today. Horn Pond gives me so much enjoyment
that
I figure I should demonstrably pay it back by cleaning up.
And yes, Jack's been having a Woodpecker he can't figure out it about where
the Red headed
Woodpeck was last fall.
