A nice clear crisp morning at Mt Auburn but not any significant numbers
of birds have arrived. The leaves seem to be advancing despite the cooler
weather but the birds are trickling in and some of the Maples are already
great bird hiders. I guess the best highlight was a Baltimore Oriole
feeding in a blooming Crab Apple, though he was quiet and the beautiful
oriole song was missing.
Highlights:
Chimney Swift 5+
N. Rough-winged Swallow 5
Tree Swallow 1
Carolina Wren 1 nicely perched in the open belting out in song
Ruby-crowned Kinglet 3
Hermit Thrush 2
Brown Thrasher- heard only
Blue- headed Vireo 4
Northern Parula 3
Yellow- rumped Warbler 15
Pine Warbler 1
Palm Warbler 4
Black and white Warbler 4
Rose- breasted Grosbeak- heard only
White-throated Sparrows 6
The White-winged Dove was last noted on Sunday, May 1. It was a pleasure
to have this bird spend so much time at our feeder and to share it wth so
many birders who came to see it. I'll keep an eye and ear out for it and
will post any updates if it should reappear.
