Screech Owl etc.  Oakes Plimpton & Pat Magee
 Dec 08, 2005 22:49 PST

Birders: We were treated to a Screech Owl concert this very cold night
-- must have been 20 melodious yodels -- we think the owl might have
been in our very tree, a False Cypress between us and our neighbors.
Why would a Screech Owl yodel or whinny so many times -- twice or three
times we'd heard before, or maybe more, but not 20 or so! Doubt any
mates to be found in the Heights. And the sparrows and chickadees all
asleep. Do mice sleep at night?
The day before yesterday the Peregrine soared across Route 2 as
we were driving by Alewife. Last Sunday I got to spy a Red-tail sitting
on the very top of the Congregational Church steeple on Pleasant
Street. Of winter birds, I think I like the Juncoes best of all.

                                     See you all the 13th.

                                        Regards, Oakes
