This ritual was collaborated on by Shekhinah, Siduri, Turquoise and Masery of
the Moonspells online women's circle. Final writeup by Shekhinah.
We arrived at the theme and content of this ritual as a result of
conversations we'd been having about money and abundance issues. Many sisters struggle
economically in patriarchy, and money is one of the main building blocks of the
system. We have been looking at ways we have been conditioned to scarcity
and ways we can help one another through magic, mutual regard and support, to
create abundance. One of the realizations we have explored is the meaning of
the word "money" which comes from the name of the Goddess Moneta. In this
ritual we will call money "moneta" to help begin the transformation through the
power of Naming.
In preparation we will need our Moneta Pentacles as outlined below. These
can be sketched and written up on paper or cardboard as a mneumonic device for
the rite. Sisters are encouraged to embellish freely and add in your own
insights and/or personally specific items.
There will be a section of the ritual in which we will knead soft clay in our
hands to mold a Moneta statue. In Her we will inscribe our pentacles. If
you prefer to do this part non-virtually with real clay, that too is an option.
On the altar have green draperies, green stones and herbs, green candles,
sage for scent and smudging, and Goddesses that emanate as Abundance and
Manifestation such as Moneta, Habondia, Gefn, Lakshmi, Oshun, Aphrodite, Demeter,
Gaia...green living plants are great too...and some green moneta tucked under a
Goddess or green stone helps too. Place your personal Shadow and Success
Pentacles, and Society's Shadow and Success Pentacles.
Just before we settle in to connect psychically with one another, we light up
our altars. We speak the prayers of our hearts to invoke the Beings and
Energies of our working.
This ritual works best in a quiet space where there are no distractions or
interruptions. It helps to mark our calendars ahead of time and keep that
timespace reserved for this rite only. Turning off telephone sounds, smoke alarms
or any other devices that could be a deterrant to the focussed psychic energy
is also advisable. Placing "please do not disturb" signs in stategic places
and informing our near and dear can help too... the more completely we can give
our whole selves to this working, while in synch with the hundreds of other
sisters around the world participating... the more actualization is possible.
Once the altar is lit we settle ourselves comfortably, and cast a circle of
protection around ourselves, our altars, and our computers if we are working
through them. We relax and breathe deeply for a while, and go within.
In the center of our circle is a round opening with a spiral stair leading
down to the shore where our Moonboat is waiting to take us to the Forest of Anu.
We arise and take up our pentacles, tuck them away into a pocket or pouch,
then traverse the spiral down through a crystal cavern softly lit with a glow,
through a yoni-shaped opening that leads to the magical Shore, cross the
sparkling sand of the beach, and embark. Do you see any of your sisters coming
aboard? Hugs and greetings and joyful laughter!... or perhaps you travel in
solitary splendor. We run our fingers over the faces and symbols carved into
the surfaces of the crescent shaped boat. We sail on water and then up through
the air, exulting in the fresh wind and spangling stars against black velvet
night. If we are travelling with companions perhaps we circle on the deck and
laugh and talk and contemplate the coming rite.
At last we arrive in the Mountains of Anu and sail down to a sweet river
there that takes us to the shore near our Sacred Grove. We disembark and make our
way to the Great Faery Tree that holds our glowing blue Group Pentacle,
inscribed on the floor of the circular chamber within. We stop there for a few
minutes, a few of us at a time, to refresh our spirits and reaffirm our good
connections:
I can see us disembarking from the magical moonboat and walking into the
woods. We enter the Great Faery Tree through an open door in its trunk, and inside
is a circular room. I see the blue lit pentacle glowing in the earthen floor.
We stand, a few at a time, in the center, holding hands and closing our eyes
and breathing in the magic. We ask for good energy for our ritual and take in
the energies of the five arms of the Star... Truthful Communication in Air,
Responsible Participation in
Fire, Commitment and Form in Earth, Loving Kindness and Bonding in Water,
Goddess Connection in Spirit. We visualize ourselves as blue starwomen, becoming
the Blue Pentacle. We ask for safe conduct through our changes, safety and
trust for our circle. We ask the Goddesses we have invoked to teach us and bless
us and protect us and give us the tools we need. When we feel refreshed and
prepared, we exit through another door in the Tree and find ourselves in the
woods. We walk from the Tree deeper into the Faery Forest of Anu where we find
our Sacred Grove...
Many sisters are arriving now from all over Mother Gaia. Priestesses are
tending a great bed of hot glowing coals in the center of our great circle.
Ancient trees encircle our circle, with five oaks marking the five points of a
huge pentacle that encompasses the whole. Before each of the five oaks is an
altar, one for each of the five elements. Priestesses tend these as well.
We share our meetings and greetings, then take our places on the Rim. A hush
comes over the Grove, as priestesses stop what they are doing and join us all
on the Rim. We close our eyes and breathe as one, breathing in, and
out......in, and out....... in, and out.....breathe, breathe throughout. A priestess
starts the Ma on a low note, and we all join in, our voices swelling and
vibrating. We create the Rainbow Cone by visualizing swirls of color moving around
and through each of our chakras, singing higher and higher notes of Ma as we
ascend from Root to Crown.
We hold the notes of Ma as long as we comfortably can, take a nice deep
breath, and continue:
Red in the Root chakra: Survival, Health, Grounding, Manifestation, Abundance
Orange in the Belly Chakra: Sexuality, Creativity, Womanly Powers, Menstrual
Mysteries
Yellow in the Stomach Chakra: Powers of Influence and Cooperation, Digestion,
Strength, Will
Green in the Heart chakra: Love, Emotions, Devotion, Compassion, Passion
Sky Blue in the Throat chakra: Breath, Communication, Poetry, Truth and
Trust, Singing and Chanting, the Powers of Speech and Naming
Indigo Blue in the Third Eye: Intuition, Telepathy, Divination, Insight, Deep
Perception
Violet in the Crown chakra: Door to the Spirit Worlds, Exit and Entrance to
and from the physical Body, Connection to the Goddess and the Universe
We take our time in each chakra... pausing to breathe and take up the Ma
again, as many times within each chakra as needed. We "spell" each other so that
when some are breathing, others are chanting, and vice versa, thus maintaining
the flow of sound throughout. In the Circle at Anu our many voices blend
into a mighty vibrating chorus.
Each of us spins a rainbow cone around ourselves, and all our cones connect
and blend, forming a giant rainbow cone that peaks over the center of our
circle, yet maintaining our individual cones as well. We allign with sound, color,
voice, vision, and our chakras.
As the last Ma dies down, we feel the thundering silence, and see the Cone
spinning.
A priestess declares the casting of the circle call and response style, so
that all can repeat the words:
Priestess: The circle is cast
All: The circle is cast
Priestess: The spell is made fast
All: The spell is made fast
Priestess: Only the good
All: Only the good
Priestess: Can enter herein
All: Can enter herein
Priestes: The magic is made
All: The magic is made
Priestess: So let it begin...
All: So let it begin...
A priestess speaks the invocation:
Mother Goddesses, Goddesses of Manifestation, of Abundance, of Plenty...
Gaia, Demeter, Moneta, Habondia, Lakshmi, Gefn, Oshun, Aphrodite... You who spin
Somethingness out of Nothingness, who balance all things so that there is
sufficient sustenance for all....who give to us out of Your Sacred Substance that
we may be nourished and fulfilled... teach us your wise ways... help us to
confront and heal the patterns of scarcity within and without... to give freely
and receive fully... to take what we need and share the overflow... Help us to
create a lush world filled with abundance and beauty and love and creativity
and freedom for all. So Be It! (All repeat) Blessed Be! (All repeat)
A chant begins:
Mother I feel You under my feet
Mother I feel your heart beat
A soft drum accompanies as we sing and continue to trance...
As we sway and sing, priestesses bring us each a beautiful bowl filled with
soft clay. We seat ourselves on the grassy earth and mold our Abundance
Goddess statues. We sing and breathe our hopes and dreams and prayers into Her
through our sculpting hands, shaping and smoothing, rounding and shaping... we
find a pointed stick nearby with which we inscribe into Her our Moneta Shadow
Pentacle and our Moneta Success Pentacle and our own Name.
Near the Center is a larger lump of soft clay and all the sisters take turns
molding it into a larger Goddess statue that represents the Moneta Pentacles
of human society.
When our statues are done we bring them to the hot glowing coals at Center,
where a fire priestess shows us the places underneath where we can deposit
them for baking. They are covered with earth and hot coals arranged over them,
and we return to our places.
While our statues are baking we are taken on an inward journey. We close
our eyes and ground and breathe. A priestess guides us in a low powerful yet
soft voice. "Look up" she says, "and see a blackness forming above us in the
sky." This blackness is a ceiling... a ceiling of limitation, of scarcity, of
never enough, of low self worth, of self blame and shame, of fear of abundance,
of social injustice... the ceiling is moving down towards us lowering itself,
making is crouch and stoop and finally fall beneath it's weight. "
Then someone cries out "Moneta!" And someone else cries out "Gaia!" And
many voices are heard now, calling on Goddesses of Abundance and Manifestation.
Then a voice cries "Begone scarcity!" And another cries "Begone poverty!"
And another cries out "no more slavery!" "Right livlihood!" Creativity!" And
so on, as our voices dance around and across and through us, crying,
repeating, supporting, echoing, strengthening. Our sounds reach a creschendo,
blending into a final 'MO....NEEEE..TAAAAA..........!!!!!
And as the energy peaks the black ceiling is suddenly burst asunder and in
it's place a showering rain of gold!! In our vision the gold becomes coins and
continues to shower us and our circle until we are surrounded by luscious
piles of them everywhere.
It is Faery Gold and we take it into ourselves as we continue to chant and
sing. We rise up dancing and flinging the golden coins up to shower down upon
us again and be absorbed in within...and we are singing and laughing with joy.
Then we come to the Center and pull our Goddess statues out from beneath the
coals with long firesticks that are there. We turn them on the earth with our
firesticks and help them to cool. And then we see that lo! the Shadow
Pentacle we had etched upon Her has disappeared! Only the Success Pentacle is
emblazoned on Her sacred belly, glowing in the night. Our statues seem to have
come to life and they smile at us.
Then we turn and see that three priestesses have pulled the World Moneta
Goddess out from under the coals too, and She too no longer shows a shadow....
just a glowing great world success pentacle! This statue too seems alive now and
smiling as She beams out loving energy to the entire circle.
As we bask in Her glow, we watch as the glowing coals dissolve and shift and
disappear to be replaced by a great basin filled to the brim with precious
green stones, magical herbs of abundance, and fertilizing seeds. World Goddess
is placed standing in the center of this magical Pool of Abundance. We each
come forward and gently immerse our Moneta Dolls within, envisioning the power
of herbs, gems, and seeds infusing our statues.
We turn our faces outwards towards the encircling trees and discover there
are perfect niches in each of them, where our Goddess statues can reside and
continue to safely work their magic.
We turn back towards Center and reform the Rim by taking hands and meeting
each other's eyes around the circle.
We chant again for a while
Mother I feel you under my feet
Mother I feel your heart beat
Oh Mother Earth I bring you release
Now strife and war and divisions cease
Our hearts now join to make increase
Deep within O Mother now be at peace
Now be at peace
Now be at peace
A priestess chants for us to repeat:
And so it is done
And so it is done
In togetherness it is done
So be it
Blessed Be.
And we declare the opening of the circle:
The Circle is open, but never broken
Merry meet and merry part
May the love of the Goddess
Live in your heart....
The circle breaks up and we say our goodbyes...return to our
moonboat...return home.

PERSONAL MONETA SHADOW AND SUCCESS PENTACLES
Below are qualities I found in my own process, so these examples may or may
not apply to you. You can adapt freely and make your pentacles appropriate to
your own process....
(Below this section is the Moneta Pentacles for society. You can add to that
one if you wish, also.)
In this symbol system the corellations are as follows:
Air - mental, thoughtforms, images, communication, speech, ideas and attitudes
Fire - energy, action, power, will, strength, interaction, behaviour
Earth - physical, practical, the body, the earth, substance, manifestation,
material plane
Water- Emotional, heart-chakra
Spirit - Psychic, spiritual, dreamtime, vision, magic

PERSONAL MONETA SHADOW PENTACLE AND MONETA SUCCESS PENTACLE
With paper and pen I sketched two five-pointed stars, writing around their
points the thoughts/feelings/attitudes that feel appropriate. They may or may
not apply to each of you, but perhaps my process will be a help to yours. Here
are the ingedients I have come up with so far in my moneta stars:
In Air
Moneta Shadow Pentacle: Expectations and pictures of scarcity, Stumped by
society's lack of recognition or valueing of my contributions, by being blamed
for my struggles and told that I am "whining" or that I "chose it."
Moneta Success Pentacle: Knowing abundance is here and will continue
indefinitely, Remembering all the clear indications that my contributions are
recognized and valued by others, eloquent protest of classism and injustice
In Fire
Moneta Shadow Pentacle: Discouragement, Crushed by the seemingly implacable
patriarchal moneta institutions and attitudes, Loss of Energy from this,
Resignation... in other words loss of Fire
Moneta Success Pentacle: Creative Fire, Taking action
In Earth:
Moneta Shadow Pentacle: Scarcity, Never Enough, Work Ethic ("you must prove
and earn your right to be here")
Moneta Success Pentacle: Manifestation, Outpouring of Abundance forever and
ever, Pleasure Ethic, I am a "child of the universe, and have an inherent
right to be here"
In Water:
Moneta Shadow Pentacle: Terror of losing home, of not having the necessities
of life, Lack of Nurturing in childhood, feelings of isolation and
abandonment, that there is no community of support....
Moneta Success Pentacle: Trust in the Eternal Flow of Abundance and Support,
Building Community
In Spirit:
Moneta Shadow Pentacle: Forgetting I can do magic to alleviate the
difficulties
Moneta Success Pentacle: Doing the Magic; Visualization, Affirmation, Prayer,
Calling on Goddesses like Habondia, Lakshmi, Gefn, Moneta... working with my
beautiful abundance poppet, the first I ever made, who brought me a nice fat
check the day after I made her, before she had even been consecrated and
activated, working with the green candles...

SOCIETY'S MONETA SHADOW AND SUCCESS PENTACLES
Individual solutions do help, but they are not the whole picture. We must
also address the way money operates in patriarchy and see if we can find some
magic to direct that towards abundance for all...
Society's Moneta Shadow in Air:
Attitudes that "money is the root of all evil", or, contradictorily, that the
more money one has the more respect and support one deserves, that the less
one has the more one is looked down upon, called a "charity case" or a "bum" or
"loser..." at the same time attitudes that the rich are evil, corrupt,
selfish... Internalized attitudes of low self worth...that one must acquire money
through distasteful or boring or disempowering activities...
general expectations of scarcity, that there will never be enough...
accusations and attitudes of blame and shame...
Society's Moneta Success in Air:
Attitudes of Integrity, Innate human worth, seeing money as a reflection of
these...recognition and honoring of everyone's contributions...seeing money as
a reflection of human energy...
In Fire:
Shadow: Competition, Exploitation, Ripoff, War
Success: Energy Exchange, Transformation of Energy, Sharing, Creativity
In Earth:
Shadow: Class system, work ethic "you must earn your right to be
here"...Slave Labor, Hoarding...98% of the wealth in the hands of 5%...
Success: Equal distribution...Pleasure-Ethic
..Flow...Giveaway..generosity...sharing...receiving, meaningful work...fair
trade...
In Water:
Shadow: Feelings of worthlessness...money is cold...impersonal...disconnected
from oneself...feelings of superiority or inferiority towards others based on
access to $
Success: Money is love...Egalitarianism...friendly money...compassion
In Spirit:
Shadow: Soulless money, soulless work...lack of sacredness... matter split
from spirit...meaninglessness...
