Press Release-Women's Voices, KZYX &Z Janie Rezner's guest,Monday, July 10, 7 p  Janie Rezner
 Jun 30, 2006 11:26 PDT
Press Release:   Janie Rezner's guest on Women's Voices, KZYX & Z, is Gloria Feldt, women's rights activist and a leading author, speaker, and media commentator on reproductive rights and health; a teen mom who rose to be the leader of the world's largest reproductive health provider and advocacy organization, Planned Parenthood. Monday, July 10th 7 pm

As a young wife and mother from small-town Texas, Gloria raised three children while attending college. She taught in the Head Start program and was active in the civil rights movement and many interfaith activities. Realizing that women's civil rights depend on having the human right to determine their own reproductive destiny, Gloria joined Planned Parenthood in 1974 as affiliate chief executive, then later became president of PPFA. She expanded PPFAs international programs, launching Global Partners advocacy and traveling globally in support of direct service programs. Her book, The War on Choice: the Right-Wing attack on Women's Rights and How to Fight Back documents the right-wing strategy to eliminate freedoms women have taken for granted for decades.

From Gloria's recent article in Women's eNews:" The dominant media has started to notice that the attack on abortion extends to contraception. But the underlying story- about the intrinsic and generalized hostility to women--is still getting passed over. The world was riveted when Natalie Holloway went missing in Aruba last year. Dan Brown's best-selling novel, "The Da Vinci Code" spins the tale around how Mary Magdalene went missing from Christian theology except as a reformed harlot. In an equally riveting mystery, women have disappeared from the story of attacks on contraception."

"A woman's bodily integrity, her moral autonomy, her health, her very life depends on whether she has access not just to the right to reproductive freedom but also to the health care and education services that make rights meaningful. Circumstances do not change that principle. Nor is the human right to reproductive self-determination divisible. You either have it or you don't. There is nothing mysterious about that."

Tune in July 10 at 7 pm on KZYX. There will be time for call-ins. Can be heard life at www.kxyz.org, 7 pm Pacific time.
