Road sealing project to begin after Labor Day  Phil Klingelhofer
 Aug 16, 2009 16:31 PDT

Arlington County will begin a road resurfacing project, using slurry
seal, on 5th Rd. N, 6th St. N, and N Montana St. This work is currently
scheduled to begin the week after Labor Day. Staff will post the “no
parking” signs ahead of the work.

Slurry Seal is a water-based, emulsified asphalt mixture spread
one-eighth inch (1/8") thick over the street surface. It protects
streets from water penetration, provides a new surface with improved
skid-resistance, and is a quick and economical repair method.

    About Slurry Seal

    Slurry seal notice letters will be mailed out to affected residents
about 4-6 weeks in advance of the operation.

    Slurry seal can be applied only in warm, dry weather. Slurry seal
dries in 4 to 6 hours. On a major street, only one lane at a time is
resurfaced so that traffic is kept moving. However, residential streets
are closed completely to traffic until the new coating is dry.
Unavoidably, there will be one day of delay for each day of rain.

    Temporary " NO PARKING "signs will be posted on your block
displaying the times and dates the work will take place. The signs will
be removed after the work is completed and the new surface is dry. After
the signs are removed, you may drive and park on your new resurfaced
street.

How Residents Can Help?

Residents can help completion of the surfacing project by:

    *parking vehicles off the street until the new surface is dry...
usually 4-6 hours dry weather ( if you need to drive your car often,
consider parking it on a nearby street);
    *refraining from raking grass, leaves or other debris into the
street;
    *protecting children from equipment and paving materials for their
safety.

Questions

The Department of Environmental will minimize inconvenience to residents
on the block as much as possible. However, if you have questions or
problems about the project, please call the Water/Sewer/Streets Bureau,
