Wastewater Improvements Project Update! (29th St. & Mohle)  edward tasch
 Mar 22, 2007 18:57 PST

The Austin Clean Water Program has a wastewater improvement project
called: W. 29th/Bowman Avenue that will begin construction this summer.
It looks as though the east end of this project is in the BrykerWoods
Neighborhood boundaries.

Everyone is invited to attend an information briefing:

Thursday, March 29, 6 to 7 pm, Howson Branch Library, 2500 Exposition
Refreshments will be served
RSPV to 684-3204

In addition, ACWP is collecting e-mail addresses of affected residents
and businesses. We will communicate with you before construction begins
and throughout the project to keep you abreast of the project status in
general. (The list will not be used for any other purpose or provided
to any individual or entity). To be included on e-mail updates please
send an e-mail to c-@groupsolutionsrjw.com. Please be sure to include
your full name, address, and e-mail address and check off the project(s)
you want to know about.

The designs for the Govalle 5 – W. 29th St/Bowman Ave; Govalle 5 –
Wethersfield/Hartford; and Gaston/Bull Creek/W. 25th Wastewater
Improvements Projects are nearly complete and the City of Austin will
soon enter the bid phase to identify and hire contractors to construct
the projects. As you may know, the Austin Clean Water Program is the
City’s response to the Environmental Protection Agency’s administrative
order several years ago mandating that the City of Austin eliminate
sewer overflows or face fines of $27,500 per overflow per day. The
deadline to complete all projects city-wide is June 2009. The projects
described here are 3 of 121 projects either in design, under
construction, or complete in neighborhoods across the community. To
find out information on projects currently under construction, please go
to http://www.cityofaustin.org/ca.

Here is the description of the project in the BrykerWoods neighborhood:

Govalle 5 – W. 29th St/Bowman Ave

Project scope is installation of approximately 9,700 linear feet of
8-inch wastewater pipe, 50 manholes, 242 wastewater services, and 1
private lateral relocation. The new wastewater lines will replace
existing lines on Exposition Blvd., Bowman Ave, Townes Ln, Bonita St,
Mohle Dr, and W. 29th St.

Additionally, approximately 1,800 linear feet of 8-inch and 6-inch water
pipe will be replaced on Bonita and St Anthony Streets. Construction
will begin summer 2007 and finish summer 2008.

Lines to be replaced are plagued by one or more of the following
problems, and will be abandoned after the new wastewater lines are
installed: root intrusion, cracks, stormwater infiltration, collapsed
pipe, missing pipe, holes, and dropped joints, all of which increase the
probability of sanitary sewer overflows. Repeat overflows were
experienced on Bonita St in 2002. All construction will occur within
City right of way.

And to be included on e-mail updates please send an e-mail to
c-@groupsolutionsrjw.com. Please be sure to include your full name,
address, and e-mail address and check off the project(s) you want to
know about.
