California Wolf Center
Internship Program

The California Wolf Center is a 501(c)(3) non-profit wildlife education
center committed to increasing public awareness and understanding of the
importance of all wildlife by focusing on the history, biology, behavior,
and ecology of the gray wolf (Canis lupus). This is accomplished by offering
engaging educational presentations, participating in conservation programs,
and hosting and funding research on both captive and free-ranging wolves.
The California Wolf Center is located four miles south of Julian, California
off of Highway 79. The Center currently houses 32 gray wolves, 21 of which
are highly endangered Mexican gray wolves, among the rarest land mammals in
the world. We are a major participant in the Mexican Wolf Species Survival
Plan, and we are the third largest breeding and host facility for Mexican
wolves in the United States.

The California Wolf Center's Internship Program offers students and
professionals a unique educational experience by providing the opportunity
to work with a non-profit wildlife organization. Interns can participate in
all aspects of our daily operation, including animal care, research,
education, development, administration, and facilities maintenance. Specific
experiences can be structured to meet them academic and professional goals
of the intern. It may be possible for interns to propose, design, conduct
and present the results of research projects at the Center. Internships
normally require a minimum time commitment of 20 hours per week for 16
weeks, but other arrangements may be possible depending on the individual
needs and goals of the intern. Interns must be available for at least 4
hours on Saturdays or Sundays. A plan for completing the remaining hours
will be arranged with our General Manager. Most work takes place at the
facility in Julian, CA. Interns must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds.
Interns must be able to work in extreme conditions including rain, snow and
extreme temperatures. A valid driver's license, proof of insurance, and safe
driving habits are required. Interns must have use of a reliable vehicle.
While gas can be expensive, carpooling can be an option with other
interns/employees/ volunteers. There are many ride share parking lots in San
Diego to facilitate carpooling.

To apply for the internship program, please submit a resume and cover letter
to the General Manager. Submissions may be emailed to
er-@californiawolfcenter.org, faxed to 760-888-0333, or mailed to
California Wolf Center, Attn: Internship Program, PO Box 1389, Julian, CA
92036.
