Hi Everyone,
First, welcome new members! A whole bunch of very nice
geographically-inclined weed people have been sent invitations and I'm
watching as you each accept and are added to the list. To see the list
of
members any time, or read archives, go to
http://lists.topica.com/lists/CalWeedMapping/prefs/subscribers.html?flush=ca
che. This is linked to our webpage, too (see below for URL). I'm working
on
inviting everyone who attended the Cal-IPC Symposium Weed Mapping
Working
Group, so this list will be a great networking tool now that we've
mostly
met each other.
Sorry about the obnoxious ads at the top of the page- it's the price you
pay
for a free service.
I have averted disaster by changing the "Reply To" setting so that a
reply
goes only to the author of the message, not to the whole list.
As soon as we're ready to start a conversation, I thought I would begin
by
updating folks on the Weed Information Management System (WIMS)
development
project, as we've had many requests for that information. Other topics I
hope we can explore are: geodatabases, electronic data collection tools
such
as PDAs with ArcPad field forms, coordinating our existing projects and
data, and the state-wide weed mapping project. I'm sure you have a
subject
on which you would like to hear from others, and I hope you will say so.
I
will send out the notes from the Cal-IPC Symposium Weed Mapping Working
Group very soon, too.
The CalWeedMapping list is a project of the Cal-IPC Weed Mapping
Committee.
Our webpage is part of the Cal-IPC website at http://www.cal-ipc.org,
under
Projects, or go directly to
http://www.cal-ipc.org/Weed_Mapping_Committee.
There you will find a little survey form that we sincerely hope you fill
out. It has six questions and only two are required, Organization Name
and
Weed Mapping Program Name. We all want to know about one another's
efforts,
and this information is the bare minimum to start what would be a very
useful inventory. We'll put it together with the CalWeed database so
we're
not duplicating efforts there.
Cheers, and more soon.
Deanne
