Hello Weed Mappers,
We would like to respond to the considerable interest expressed at the
working group session in the Weed Information Management Systems (WIMS)
database application that was introduced there. If you missed that session,
you can read in the Cal-IPC Weed Mapping Workgroup notes notes what was
presented by Mandy Tu and myself about this useful application created by
TNC, and how Team Arundo del Norte has partnered with TNC in its ongoing
development. If you would like the slide-show files, let me know and I can
make them available. A draft WIMS user manual is available at
http://tncweeds.ucdavis.edu/wims.html, and this is the website to watch for
future updates and releases.
The current status of WIMS is:
* The application is not currently available yet to the public but is
planned for public release in a couple of months. It will be free to use,
and technical support may possibly be contracted.
* USFWS Region 1 (CA, OR, WA, ID, AK, HI) refuge biologists are being
trained in its use under contract with TNC.
* TNC and TAdN have begun cooperating on the development of the public
release version that will incorporate a list of additional features.
* CDFA is considering adopting WIMS for use by the Weed Management Areas,
and has been invited to join the development team.
* TAdN will be offering training for its partners in coming months, and
will try to make additional seats available.
We will make further announcements about the availability of the public
release version when that happens- thanks for your interest!
