Hi Andrea,

I understand the frustration. I'm CCing this thread to the CalWeedMapping
listserv. Cal-IPC's mapping committee is working on a statewide arundo map
as a pilot for compiling accessible statewide data and maps for other
species. Won't happen overnight, but we're working on it. Thanks,

Doug

I guess my question, in this instance and generally for a lot of our weeds,
is why isn't it on anyone's map? How can we tell how widespread a problem
is unless we tell people? I'm not trying to spray blame on anyone at all,
just trying to figure out the missing links. I obviously had no idea it was
there, which is not the best thing in the world. But from our casual
emailing, there are two other sites in the county? Will the sending it into
the lab trigger a dot on a map? Can we all fill out a quick report for our
populations--I've submitted one with the USGS' NAS database
http://nas.er.usgs.gov/plants/index.html
I don't want to be wonky, or obsessed with reporting, but data is money.
And we're the missing corner piece in California's puzzle right now.
Thanks,

Andrea,
Attached is the CDFA lab determination confirming Egeria densa. Scroll to
the bottom and look under the identifications section. This is not a new
find, and according to some of our departments long-term staff members has
been known to occur there for decades.

So...it appears we've got Egeria densa Planchon, aka Elodea densa
(Planchon) Caspary, at Freshwater Lagoon (the southern end of our park).
I'd like to get this confirmed, especially since it's a big range extension
of a Cal-IPC A-2 from San Joaquin/Sacramento, get some signage up, and look
at our options. And let you all know.
Joe, Doug, Jeff or Steve: where can I send this, and are there sign
templates in existence to educate and reduce spread? Is it know to be a big
problem in our colder climes?
Bob, I don't know who "owns" the culvert under the highway and cleans it
out, or would know if it is (or is in danger of) getting clogged, but we
should probably talk.
