We moved the CWIT list from Topica to our own server, and we want to
make sure that it is working. If you received this message, but did not
receive meeting announcements from
cwit-an-@coloradowit.org, please email me at wi-@coloradowit.org to
let me know.
In case you missed it, the announcement for next week's meeting is
below.
Thanks!

We are concerned that the new email list might have some glitches, and
that the announcement did not get out to everyone, so we are accepting
late registrations for this meeting. You can pay with a credit card at
PayPal up until Friday. You can bring cash or check to the door, but
PLEASE send an RSVP email to wi-@coloradowit.org, so we'll know how many
people are coming. Thanks!

The next meeting of Colorado Women In Technology will be Jan 24 at
Dolan's in Boulder.
We are pleased to be kicking off the new year with Paula Sharick,
long-time CWIT member and regular contributor to Windows IT Pro magazine
(formerly known as Windows NT, Windows 2000, Windows .NET).
Understanding Cyber Threats and Deterrents
Malicious code is running rampant in our cyber universe. Gone are the
days when we only had to worry about memory-based or boot sector
viruses. Given that the variants of malware today are several orders of
magnitude larger, and much more widely dispersed, each and every
technology user must be informed about the damaging nature of nasty
code. After reviewing the definitions and sources of the more recent
entries on the cyber-threat list, including spyware and phishing, we'll
discuss potential sources of these infections and techniques you can use
on Windows-based systems to diagnose whether or not a system has become
infected. We'll finish up by discussing the most effective deterrents
you can implement to ensure your systems remain as healthy as possible.

The meeting will start at 6:30PM with networking, hors d'oeuvres, and
drinks. The presentation will start at 7:30.

credit card at PayPal up until Friday. You can bring cash or check to
