Problems upgrading CM to 2.5.1b from 1.9.1  Malcolm Sickels

I've attempted to upgrade from CM 1.9.1 (Running on FM 6) to 2.5.1b
(labeled as 2.5.2 on the Mac.com download page) in FM 9. Basically
it didn't quite work. In the last paragraph, you'll see I did get it
to work ok, so you could just ignore the next section unless you're
interested in upgrading from 1.9.1.

First, I had to convert all the .fp5 files from the old 1.9.1 to .fp7
files by dropping the whole folder on the FM9 icon. This went fairly
smoothly, though it did ask for the CTG_Resources file near the end
and I selected the converted one since it wouldn't accept the .fp5
version. A glance through the Conversion.log that it made had a lot
of "Deleting unneeded file reference" and some other things that
don't make too much sense to me. Once this was over, I quit FM (to
close all the files).
Then I opened the 2.5.1b Cottage_Med.fp7 file, which told me it might
be time to back up, but I haven't put data in it yet, so ignored it,
and hit OK. Then I clicked the "upgrade" button on the front page
and then had to find each file from the old version (and a few that
didn't exist) and verify the fields matched (which it did most of the
time, there were a couple near the end that didn't have any matching
fields so I had to hit cancel on the fields screen then tell the
script to continue).
Once the automated import was all over (that step took ~40 min), I
looked through the files and all the Rx logs are blank. Everything
else seems to have survived OK. Curiously, there's 3 extra records
in the CTG_Resources file, 2 are for ophthy. I guess I can just
delete them. Also the CTG_Resources file doesn't show up in the
Window menu so I tried opening it manually, but it looks like all I
needed to do was look in the Show Window submenu.
I tried to manually import the Rx Log (which I guess is in the
CTG_ZRx_Log.fp7), but it didn't make any difference.

Then I tried again by importing everything into CM 2.2 for FM7
(manually), then copying the files into the "Office Backup" folder
(not "Backup" as referred to in the "README user manual" html
files). This works a lot more smoothly sine everything is automated,
though the CTG_ZHealerBeaurocracy file doesn't exist (since 1.9?) so
I just cancelled looking for it and then hit continue when it asked
what to do about the script (this may be a good thing to mention in
the documentation). Also it tried to import CTG_Resources into
CTG_Templates_Patient_Education but there's no fields mapped, so it
gives an error, so I had to cancel that and then continue the
script. It also had trouble finding CTG_Z_PalmPDA_ because it was
looking for one without the final underscore. For some reason the
Last Bill column on the list layout is blank for all entries. I'll
have to edit it to do what I did back in 1.9.1. It also tries to pop-
up the same values list as the Status column.
FWIW, I tried the direct upgrade from 1.9.1 to 2.5.1b again by
placing the converted (by FM9) files into the Office Backup folder
and hitting Upgrade. There were a few problems finding files, but
much easier than doing it without putting things in the backup
folder, though it still didn't preserve the Rx log, so I have to
conclude the only way to do it is to upgrade to CM ~2.2 first then do
the automated upgrade from there.

Changes I have to make include unchecking the first few scripts in
scriptmaker and checking the ones to switch to view-patient info,
super notes and accounts, since those are the only scripts I use
frequently. I don't see much point in having scripts to put up a
window that says to read the help files or upgrade accessible by
cmd-1/2/3 when it could use them for sometime I do more often.
I changed the field for the "Last Bill" column in the Patient Info-
List layout to ::ServiceDate from ZBillingLog (since it wasn't
working before) and changed it to appear as an Edit Box (so it
wouldn't have the drop down on it).
Changed "gift" to "Pt. Paid" in the Form-Superbill layout (billers
don't know what to do with gifts, I also had to bold it for them so
they could pick it out easy).
In the Progress Notes layout, I deleted the new allergy box (one's
enough for me), changed the color on the Time and SuperBill buttons
to find them easier (and prevent clicking on the TIme button when
putting in exam findings), and added a button next to the ToolBox
button to go to ePocrates (https://online.epocrates.com/public/
portkey/).
Otherwise, everything looks great. When I first saw it, I thought
the new layout looked washed-out, but now that I see it with notes in
it, I like it.
I'm a little unclear on what email is the best to use, so I'm sending
it to the best three prospects. There hasn't seemed to be much
traffic about upgrades and stuff recently on the topica list.
Now if I can just get FM server up and running!
