Our next program will be this Saturday, April 17th at 10:30 am in the
Mark Taper Auditorium at the Central Library.
Albert Sonnenfeld will speak on "Escoffier: the man, the legacy". Bert
will focus on the life of Escoffier, who had a 62 year career in France
and England, and produced a number of authoritative works which
characterized the French cooking styles of his day.
Bert is Professor of French and Comparative Literature at USC, and edits
a series of books on culinary history for Columbia University Press,
including his translation of Rebora's Culture of the Fork.
He last spoke to us in 2001 on "The Fork and Civilization.".

We seek someone to take care of booksales for those events when we have
an author speaking.
It's not much work, and it only happens a few times a year. If you're
willing to help, please get in touch with Nancy Z. at her NEW email
address: zasla-@adelphia.net. Thanks.

The Food Journal is seeking submissions for News and Notes, Query
Corner, and announcements of Autumn Seminars and Conferences that are of
interest to the Culinary Historians membership. Please submit no later
than MAY 15, 2004, to Amelia Saltsman at amelias-@earthlink.net.
The Food Journal is also looking for features; please submit story ideas
to Amelia at same address for assignment.
