William Marshall, best known to the world as Blacula passed away Wednesday
at the age of 78, the Associated Press reported. Marshall reportedly
suffered from Alzheimer's disease. Aside from starring in two Blaxploitation
classics, "Blacula" and "Scream, Blacula, Scream," Marshall, who passed in a
Los Angeles rest home, also played Othello, Paul Robeson and Fredrick
Douglass on stage and television.
Born in Gary, Ind., Marshall exhibited a love for acting early and
eventually went on to study at the Actors Studio and at New York
University.
His acting credits include TV's "Star Trek," "The Jeffersons" and a role as
the King of Cartoons on "Pee Wee's Playhouse."
Marshall is survived by three sons, one daughter and his partner of 42
years, Sylvia Jarrico.
