Two forthcoming UK Delian events  Martin Guy
 Apr 02, 2009 02:40 PST

Two events are forthcoming in the UK featuring sounds from the tape
archive of Delian music.

From 25th to 30th April as part of the Sheffield Sensoria festival
there is an installation featuring sounds from the famous tapes

"PIONEERS AND ENGINEERS: Sensoria pays tribute to 3 female pioneers of
the music world, Delia Derbyshire, Bebe Barron and Wanda Jackson plus
Mel Cheren the gay founding father of disco. Includes screenings, live
performance and a sound installation."

"DELIA DERBYSHIRE SOUND INSTALLATION
25 - 30 April See calendar for times
Bloc Studios, 77 Sidney St. Sheffield S1 4RG
A sound installation from Dr David Butler of the Delia Derbyshire
Archive at The University of Manchester. Featuring a number of Delia's
recordings in their original format and ranging from the spoken word
to what sounds like a proto Jamie Principle."

as well as
25th 7.00pm: A screening of the Legend of Hell House,
27th 8.30pm: The Alchemists of Sound documentary and the presence of
the BBCRW crew.

pages 4 and 5. I'm on the dole these days, but the 27th is my
birthday, so if anyone would like to offer me the train ticket I'll go
- mail me privately

From 14-17 May I am told there will be a second installation at the
Short Circuit festival of pioneering electronic artists at the
Roundhouse Theatre in London, culminating on the 17th with an event:

"The Radiophonic Workshop
Still pioneering, in 2002 four ex-members of the BBC Radiophonic
Workshop re-formed to create the soundtrack for "Generic Sci Fi
Quarry". Now Peter Howell, Paddy Kingsland, Roger Limb, Dick Mills and
Mark Ayres get together again to explore Radiophonics past, present,
and future."

"The Radiophonic Workshop get together again to explore Radiophonics
past, present, and future. Old and new innovative electronica for a
large arena combines with live performance and multimedia projections.
An event not to be missed.

"The BBC Radiophonic Workshop was founded in 1958, and closed its
doors 40 years later. Throughout its life, and since its closure, it
has been enormously influential on generations of musicians, with the
names of composers such as Delia Derbyshire, John Baker, Brian
Hodgson, Dick Mills, Paddy Kingsland and Peter Howell taking on almost
legendary status."
