* NWDAF: Disability Action Training Day *
24th June, MPAC building, 1 - 27 Bridport St, Liverpool L3 5QF
The final part of the Disability Discrimination Act comes into effect on
1st October 2004, and the onus is on all services to demonstrate that
they have prepared its staff to work within the law and not discriminate
against Disabled people.
Often people do not understand how the law works and how to include
Disabled people positively into their venues, galleries or other arts
projects. The day will take you through understanding some of the key
issues such as language, social model, DDA , cultural stereotypes and
ends with an action planning exercise designed with the participants job
in mind=
.
A place will cost just GBP 45 per person, and includes materials pack,
lunch and refreshments throughout the day.
Contact NWDAF register on tel: 0151 707 1733, fax: 0151 708 9355,

Places are limited to just 15 people.
Other Stuff
The Sun Gets its Hooks into Terror
The Sun Newspaper May the 28th headline “Nailed: Hook Locked up on 11
terror charges. The Sun which at the best of times is seriously shoddy
stuff sinks lower and lower. Following the arrest of Abu Hamza on (USA)
terrorist charges. The Sun decides that he simply has to be identified
as a disabled person. For, after all what's a bad guy without some form
of disability. The front page has a large picture of Abu Hamza with his
prosthesis clearly featured and there is no mistaking the message.
Disabled Bad
This is probably one of the best examples of the press stereotyping
disabled people so far this year and is a must for trainers trying to
get across this issue. So in the best traditions of tabloid journalism
EtCetera has fifty copies of the offending rag to give away. Simply
email ndaf.org with “gimme” in the subject (greed is good). and your
address in the body of the mail,. First come first served.
