* Win 5 Copies of ‘SHELF LIFE’ *

This week you can win five copies of NDAF’s ‘SHELF LIFE’, an anthology
of poetry and prose attempting to offer a glimpse into the experiences
of people with shortened lives.

The book, beautifully designed by Dave Everitt, was created via a series
of writing residencies which took place all over England in 2002. It
also includes specially commissioned visual images by disabled artists
taking their inspiration from both the writing and the theme itself.

NDAF’s Director Geof Armstrong explains: “In the early days of the
development of the disability arts movement, it became apparent that
many of the disabled artists involved were not going to be able to
realise their full potential or be able to build up a lifetime’s
portfolio of work. Not because of lack of cash, not because of lack of
opportunity or lack of talent, but because of lack of time, their
lifetime. Of course this situation hasn’t changed, a lot of disabled
people live with conditions that will shorten their lives. Not only do
we confront the daily grind of an inaccessible environment, but we must
also face our own mortality, often in chronic pain and more often
without adequate or appropriate support. It is hoped the book will
inspire debate around this sensitive and taboo subject.”

All you need to do is send an email to <compet-@ndaf.org>. Please
include your name and postal address in the message. The winners will be
the first five entries arriving in the mailbox.

(Offer open to all UK residents, excluding employees of the The National
Disability Arts Forum. One entry per person. Prize is non-transferable.
No cash alternative)

The ‘Shelf life’ project was funded by Arts Council England, The
Trusthouse Charitable Foundation, Esmée Fairbairn and The De Neergard
Trust.
