* Win a Ticket for ‘Alice Through the Looking Glass ‘ *

This summer London Bubble returns to London’s parks, woods and open
spaces with its unique brand of open-air promenade theatre.

Alice Through the Looking Glass invites you to enter a world where
nothing is quite as it seems - where flowers talk, but they could be
friendlier; where the creatures you meet squabble, and tell you strange
stories about giant monsters..

We have two tickets for two ETC readers for the BSL Interpreted
Performance (Interpreter: Sam Mailes) at Southwark Park on Thursday 22
July, 7.30pm.

include your name and postal address in the message. The winners will be
the first two entries arriving in the mailbox. Your ticket will be
booked for you and will be waiting on the Box Office for you to pick up.

For all their performances they have selected paths and routes they
consider to be as wheelchair friendly as possible. If you need

Disabled Artsists, Arts Mangers and Consultants

Are you looking for work?

The National Disability Arts Forum recieves information about employment
oportunities for disabled people on a regular basis, not all of which
appears in EtCetera. In order to ensure this information gets to the
people who can use it, the Forum is setting up a database of Disabled
Artsists, Arts Mangers and Consultants who are available or are looking
for work.

The moment we recieve information about a contract or work on offer, it
will proccesed and sent out via email to those on the database.

It’s simple it’s fast, it’s free and easy.

* Welcoming People with a Learning Disability to your Venue *

This new Mencap report considers the barriers to attending and enjoying
theatre, concerts and the arts, and offers solutions.

It is available as a pdf download on the Mencap website at

* Improving the Life Chances of Disabled People *

The Prime Minister’s Strategy Unit has published this analytical report
The Strategy Unit would like feedback on the document from disabled
people.

The report is 240 pages long, and is in 16 point print. The document is

* Electronic Cultural Conference Diary *

CCD is published electronically every 2 months and aims to provide a
comprehensive listing of all conferences, seminars and related events
for the cultural sector which have an international focus in that they
are aimed at an audience in and beyond the country in which they are
happening.

* Disabled People’s Archive and History Project *

Greater Manchester Coalition of Disabled People has received funding
from the Heritage Lottery Fund to collate and promote the history of the
disabled people’s movement.
GMCDP welcomes support, co-operation and assistance from professional
archivists, disabled people’s organisations and individual disabled and
nondisabled people across the UK who might possess archive materials and
useful information about the history of the movement.

* Theatre Education Network *

This new ambitious organisation will be launched later this year. Its
aim is to support theatre education professionals and their work across
the UK.

* Volunteers Wanted *

The Dorothy Miles Cultural Centre in Guildford, Surrey is named after
Dorothy Miles, a sign language poet who worked in both the UK and
America. Dorothy was passionate about deaf issues, culture and sign
language and longed to bridge the gap between deaf and hearing people.
The Centre is making her dream a reality with deaf and hearing friends
working together hand in hand.

They are looking for volunteers to help improve the services they are
currently running, in particular they are looking for volunteers in the
areas of administration, fundraising (writing applications to gain
funding for posts & projects etc.), Arts and Drama Project and
publicity.
They run courses in British Sign Language, Deaf Awareness, Communication
Tactics and BSL workshops. They have regular Children’s Activities Days,
and many others.

They also need volunteers to help them organise their upcoming car boot
sale to raise funds for their training rooms.

* Theatre Needs Talented People *

The UCL Bloomsbury Theatre is a 550 seat venue in London with a
programme as diverse as the areas that surround it with recent acts
including Ricky Gervais, The Divine Comedy, and theatre productions of
Hamlet and The Twits.

They are looking for talented people to become part of their future
programming, in particular workshop leaders/performers in any creative
arts form that are able to teach as part of their education programme as
well as developing their own work on our stage and in the studio space.
They are particularly interested in hearing from people who would be
interested in teaching Shakespeare, an Asian Youth Theatre or working
with special needs pupils.

* New Online Bookshop *

author.co.uk is about to have it's own online bookshop at

They are now seeking titles published by authors or small independent
presses.

This will be a retail bookshop, taking 35% discount from publishers.
They will hold stocks of your titles, on sale or return, and pay on
sales made by monthly electronic transfer.

* New Name for eight point six *

The Disability Rights Commission’s publication was given it’s name at a
time when the Government estimated the number of disabled people in the
country around 8.6 million. It is now more likely to be close to 10
million, and the DRC is looking for a new name.

your choice.

* Free Internet and Computer Access *

Merseyside Play Action Council (MPAC) and North West Disability Arts
Forum will be providing Internet and Computer facilities free of charge
in the Reception Area of the MPAC Building, 1-27 Bridport Street in
Liverpool.

Facilities include: 3 Windows XP Pc's and 2 Apple Macs with internet
access, design programmes and the Microsoft works suite for office work.

* Holton Lee: Unseen Bodies of Work *

Mark Annis - Penny Goater - Juliet Prentice

Unseen Bodies of Work is a stimulating and high quality exhibition which
the artists hope will encourage other disabled people to consider the
arts as a serious option.

Mark’s large oil paintings explore the issues of hidden talent. He feels
strongly that people with learning difficulties can produce serious work
that challenges prejudice and celebrates difference.

Penny has created a series of watercolour paintings that represent a
calendar of intimate and secrete experiences.

Juliet has produced a series of 500 mermaids purses, each one containing
a message of hope.

Holton Lee is situated off the A351 (next to the Romany Industrial
Estate), just 6 miles from Poole and 4 miles from Wareham.

Boys Own, stuff usually which this week focuses on automated devices in
the home, such as voice activated curtains perhaps ? (s)

16.00 - The Food Programme - R4
Hospital Food, does it make you sick ? A little over a year ago a
member of the NDAF staff spent a considerable time in hospital. Key the
recovery was weight gain, the food though was just so disgusting that it
was chore to eat (anyone remember Papillion). Complaints to consultants,
dietitians and nurses, where all met with the same helpless shrug and
frustrated sigh. According to an informed source at the time, the total
budget catering had per patient per day was 1.50 GPB. That’s for brekky,
lunch and din dins. The alternative, if one can’t eat this muck, is a
very expensive drip fed supplement by Nestle.

its 1928 and a new sculpture by Brancusi is being delivered to the
United States. Customs reckons its not art and should be taxed, the
recipient reckons it is arts and is tax exempt. This is the story of the
following court case that had to decide “what is art?”.

The Afternoon Play: An Illness left the Goya completely deaf. This drama
tells how he continued with his work as a painter

A play by Kaite O’Reilly about loss of memory and its horrific effects
on two couples who are trying to cope. Kaite, as many of you will know,
is a long term disability arts practitioner and editor of Shelf Life the
NDAF anthology of poetry about death and disability.
