* Disability Arts Dissertation *

Armineh Soorenian has been studying for her MA in Disability Studies at
the University of Leeds, and is now planning her dissertation on
disability arts, its impact on the disabled artists and the disabled
culture in the UK. It is is hoped to cover the following areas:

1 To see if the “Disability Arts Movement” has provided opportunities
for disabled people to join in mainstream art activities (creation,
involvement, consumption and employment)?
2 To see if the “Disability Arts Movement” has been inclusive of artists
with different kinds and levels of impairments?
3 To see if the “Disability Arts Movement” has played a role in
challenging dominant representations of disability in the arts?
4 To see to what extent has the “Disability Arts Movement” been
influential in giving the disabled people/artists a positive identity?
5 To see what similarities if any there are between the “Disability Arts
Movement” and the “Feminist Art Movement”?
6 To find out more about the distinction between creations of art as
therapy “for” disabled people and creations of art as recreation, as
tools of liberation.

Armineh is looking for disabled or none-disabled volunteers with or
without artistic background to help her sharing their experiences and
ideas on the 7 topics above.
Because of her own impairments Armineh prefers communication via email.
Her address is <armineh.s-@ntlworld.com>.
