FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Cary Visual Art Presents Robert Mangold’s Lecture on

Kinetic Public Art

CARY N.C. – ROBERT MANGOLD will present his lecture “Kinetics in the
21st Century” on September 16th, at 8 p.m. at the Page-Walker Arts
and History Center. Mr. Mangold will discuss his own kinetic works,
his interest in the relationship of the natural sciences in the 21st
century and the future of kinetics.   In addition to the lecture,
there will be a Meet the Artist reception beforehand, beginning at
7:00 p.m. Light refreshments will be served. The event is
organized and sponsored by Cary Visual Art, Inc. (CVA) and is
presented to the public free of charge. The Town of Cary is
co-sponsoring the program.

“We are very excited to present the Cary public with a kinetic
artist such as Robert Mangold,” said LAURA HARRAR, Executive
Director for CVA. “His topic is particularly timely since his piece
Anemotive Kinetic was recently placed in Cary for a one-year
temporary exhibition.”

Time, space and motion in nature are fundamental elements to Robert
Mangold’s works of art. While he sees the future of kinetics as
something intended to excite viewers, his own work is meant to
calm. Anemotive Kinetic will be on exhibition in downtown Cary
through July 2004. The piece is located on the corner where Academy
Street, Dry Avenue and Kildaire Farm Road intersect. The artwork is
a selection from the NC Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition based in
Greensboro, NC as presented by the Greensboro Artists’ League.

Sculptor Robert Mangold has exhibited his works of art for over 40
years and earned his MFA from Indiana University, Bloomington.
Mangold has participated in numerous regional and national
invitational exhibitions and has also exhibited internationally.
Mangold has received awards and grants for his work such as the
AFKEY Award from the Denver Art Museum for outstanding community
service and the Superior Award-6th Henry Moore Grand Prize from the
Hakone Open-Air Museum in Tokyo.
