digital cameras  Mark Crummett

 Mark,
I gather from this post that you are a Nikon digital camera owner. If you
are, why did you choose Nikon???? The reason I am asking is that I am
getting ready to purchase my first digital camera and have been advised by a
Photoshop instructor to get a Canon 10D.   I called Wolfe Camera to price it
and was told that Canon is coming out next week with a new model called the
Rebel which has most of the same features as the 10D and sells for about
half the price.
I wonder if anyone else out there has experience with digital cameras and
can offer opinions to me.

I use a Nikon Coolpix 5000. I chose Nikon because I'm a long-time
Nikon 35mm shooter. I trust the name and I can use my Nikon flash
equipment on the Coolpix line. I chose the 5000 in particular because
it has a fabulous wide-angle adapter. (I love shooting with wide
angle lenses.)

I'm really not familiar with any other systems. But these days, if
you spend more than about $200, it's almost impossible to buy a bad
digital camera. You can't go wrong getting a name brand, and Canon
has been making cameras as long as Nikon and has a very good rep.
Olympus, Fuji, Hewlitt-Packard all make good ditcams.

Yes, new cameras come out all the time (it seems like every couple of
weeks a new, improved model is appearing). My advice is to do your
research, see what's out there that will do what you want it to do,
make the purchase. Then stop looking and be happy with what you've
got, because next week a cheaper, better, faster model _will_ appear!
;-) When you're ready to purchase, I recommend buying online or mail
order from a reputable dealer, like Adorama or B&H in NY. Shipping is
almost always cheaper than 7% sales tax!
