The Raleigh Concert Band will begin its 2006 season with a free Spring
Concert at Cardinal Gibbons High School, 1401 Edwards Mill Rd., Raleigh,
NC on Saturday, May 27 at 7 P.M.
Along with the Band, there will be a performance by the combined bands
of Powell GT Magnet School of the Visual & Performing Arts and Wiley
Elementary International Magnet School, playing America the Beautiful as
the final number.
The theme of the concert will be:
A Whole Lotta Latin
The pieces the band will be performing will include:
Espana Rhapsody, by Emmanuel Chabrier
Festa Espagnol, a medley of Spanish pieces, including La Virgen De La
Macarena, Andalucia, and Malaguena
The New Mexico March by John Phillip Souza
The Legend of Zorro, the fictional nobleman and master swordsman living
in Spanish-era California.
Carmen Suite, selections from the opera, Carmen, by Georges Bizet
America, music selections from "West Side Story"
Tijuana Brass in Concert, selections from Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass
The Peanut Vendor, the first great Latin hit in the U.S.
Sedona, a piece for concert band written by Steven Reineke, who was
inspired by the gorgeous rock formations surrounding the town of Sedona,
Arizona.
The Raleigh Concert Band is made up of local area musicians who like to
play for enjoyment and perform for the public. It is a non-profit
organization that welcomes your tax deductible contributions. The
concert is free and open to the public.
