The Manna Project:
Last month, our youth rep, fasted for 7 days for World Hunger. You can help
this cause by participating in our Manna Project. The Manna Project is a 24
hour fasting, serving, and giving program that allows you, your youth group,
or your church to raise money for this cause. You can request your free
packet of info on our website or by calling our office at 765-947-5100
A note from our Director of Development:
The biblical principle of fasting involves both self denial and increased
devotion to God’s purposes. Typically, when a person fasts, they go without
solid food for a predetermined period of time, and devote the time that
would otherwise be spent preparing and consuming food to communing with God
through prayer, Scripture, worship or service.
We challenge you to help us feed the hungry by engaging in a type of fast.
We ask that you identify something that you would be willing to go without
for a period of time (you decide if it will be a day, a week, or a month),
and devote the money saved to helping us feed hungry people.
You might find an item that excites you on the following list:
Brewing your own morning cup of coffee Vs. paying specialty shop
prices
Skipping the side order of fries you would usually have with your
burger
Substituting tap water for a trendy brand of bottled water
Resisting a mid-afternoon visit to the vending machine in your work
place
Borrowing a free movie from the library in place of renting one at
the store
Walking or riding your bike for short trips and contributing the
amount saved on gas
Having a game night at home rather than paying admission to an
entertainment venue
Trading books with a friend rather than purchasing the latest best
seller
Having beans or lentils rather than meat for a meal at home
These are just a few general suggestions. If you apply your creativity, you
will probably come up with ideas that are far better. Let us know what
works for you.
Gary Finley
