Hi
If you recall, I was partially responsible for much of the discussion on
how to conduct a weight and balance on Fisher planes or any others for
that matter. Today, I happened to be at the local FBO to have them make
up a fuel line for me and I asked them if they had scales and procedures
and costs and all that stuff. Turns out they have a permanent drive on
arrangement and it takes very little time to do, which equates to very
little cost, the man felt it would be in the neighborhood of $50 for a
very professionally done empty weight check. If I wanted more than the
one weight test, costs would only go up very slightly(I suppose he was
referring to possible combos like full fuel pilot only, full fuel pilot
and passenger). Regardless, approximately $50 makes the whole discussion
of other alternatives silly in my case. Three decent scales with
unknown backgrounds would cost me that much. So, don't fail to consider
your local FBO guy if you have one, you too might be surprised at the
reasonableness of the cost.
