Matt LeBlanc's spin-off "Joey" premieres, Thursday, September 9 on NBC
in the old Friends time-slot (8-8:30 p.m. EST).

We get at least 5 e-mails a day asking: "When is Friends season 8 being
released??" I've always responded that when we get the information we'll
post it in the newsletter. So here's what we heard. Friends: Season 8
will be released in November! That's all the information we have at this
time, but we wanted to share it with everyone. We don't expect this to
be officially announced until Sept.

The 56th Annual Primetime Emmys air on ABC on Sunday, Sept. 19. Good
luck to Jennifer, Matt and the crew of Friends.

Yesterday, Aug. 19, Matthew Perry celebrated his birthday, he turned 35.

Matt LeBlanc celebrated a birthday on July 25, he turned 37.

Also Lisa Kudrow's b-day was on July 30, she turned 41.

Courteney Cox Arquette is on the cover of the new issue of "Good

Meanwhile Matt LeBlanc and his Wife Melissa are on the cover of the
Sept. issue of "Ladies Home Journal."

Don't Expect Old 'Friends' on 'Joey' at First
(Monday, July 12 02:00 PM)
By Daniel Fienberg

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) Given that Joey Tribbiani has just moved into a
sunny, airy apartment complex in Los Angeles, it wouldn't be unexpected
for Ross and Rachel or Chandler and Monica to come out to California and
visit. He could show them the La Brea tar pits and they could get hot
dogs at Pink's. If that reunion just happened to come at a key point
during the November sweeps period, what could be more convenient?

Not so fast.

Speaking with reporters at the semiannual TV Critics Association press
tour, executive producer Kevin S. Bright promises that there are no
immediate plans for cameos by any of the other cast members from
"Friends." Not that there's anything wrong with old friends visiting a
successful spinoff ("Frasier" was constantly drawing on "Cheers"
characters), but for now Bright and star Matt LeBlanc are eager to
establish Joey in his new home and help "Joey" settle into NBC's lineup.

"In the near future, I think the chances are small, because I think our
first goal is to get 'Joey' working on its own and not be dependent on
bringing in stunt casting, even though it's stunt casting that's
obviously familiar to the audience," Bright explains. "I think it's
about the new show and getting that to stand on its feet. And then I'm
sure we will have some fun."

Although none of the other "Friends" characters have been scheduled to
visit the show, David Schwimmer will spend some time behind the camera
on "Joey." Schwimmer, who directed a number of "Friends" episodes, will
helm the season's sixth episode.

Although eager to let the show find its own identity, LeBlanc admits
that he misses being part of the ensemble.

"You know, when we first got to the stage, I kept waiting for the door
to open and Chandler to walk in," he admits.

LeBlanc still gets emotional discussing the end of the 10-season run of
"Friends."

"My reaction to it was it was like getting a divorce from someone you're
still in love with," he says, recalling shooting the finale. "It was
very sad. It was tough, you know, it sucks."

The people entrusted with making sure that LeBlanc's next step doesn't
suck are a team of "Friends" veterans including Bright and "Joey"
creators Shana Goldberg-Meehan and Scott Silveri.

"He's still Joey, but he's going to grow," promises Goldberg-Meehan.
"You're going to see him hopefully achieve some career success,
hopefully fall in love at some point down the line. And the goal is to
keep him Joey, but more."

'Joey's' New Neighbor Moves In
(Friday, July 23 04:27 PM)

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) NBC's "Friends" spinoff "Joey" has finally
found a neighbor/love interest for its title character.

Andrea Anders, a theater actress who's appeared in "The Graduate" on
Broadway, takes over from Ashley Scott, who played the part in the
show's pilot. "Joey" will be Anders' first regular TV role.

Creators Shana Goldberg-Meehan and Scott Silveri, who moved over from
"Friends" with star Matt LeBlanc, have reworked the character somewhat,
according to the Hollywood trade papers. As with Scott's version in the
original pilot, the character will be married. Her name has changed,
from Allison to Alex, and she's been given a career (lawyer) and a
hangup (she finds it hard to relax).

Anders' theater credits include the Broadway production of "Proof" in
addition to "The Graduate." She's guest-starred on "Oz" and "Tru
Calling" and had a small role in this year's remake of "The Stepford
Wives." She's also starred in two pilots, NBC's "Spellbound" and ABC's
Joel Stein comedy, in the past two development seasons.

"Joey" is scheduled to premiere Thursday, Aug. 9. It follows LeBlanc's
Joey Tribbiani as he moves from New York to Los Angeles to further his
acting career. Drea De Matteo ("The Sopranos") and Paulo Costanzo ("Road
Trip") play Joey's sister and nephew.

Aniston Lines Up Next Roles
"People"
By Stephen M. Silverman
Friday Jul 23, 2004

Jennifer Aniston's September travel schedule is falling into place, say
trade reports.

Aniston, 35, is due to start shooting the thriller Derailed in London
and Chicago with British King Arthur actor Clive Owen, says the
Hollywood Reporter.

The film, to mark the English-language debut of Swedish director Mikael
Hafstrom (Evil) with a script by Collateral screenwriter Stuart Beattie,
revolves around a married advertising executive who misses his train to
work - triggering a series of harrowing events.

Aniston will go directly into production right after she finishes a
still-untitled comedy that loosely follows the storyline of The
Graduate, reports Variety.

Witherspoon, meanwhile, is eyeing a film version of Leslie Schnur's new
comic novel The Dog Walker, about a New York publishing executive who
loses her job, takes up walking pooches for Manhattan's elite and become
involved in their lives - or, at least, she gets to snoop into some
snazzy apartments.

Witherspoon's Type A Films is producing, which will give the Legally
Blonde star, 28, first crack at the lead. Jennifer Aniston's September
travel schedule is falling into place, while Reese Witherspoon is
mulling over a lead role in a romantic comedy from her own production
company, say trade reports.

Tribbiani Goes To Hollywood
Matt LeBlanc's Character Joey Leaves The Comfort Of His `Friends' And
`Must See TV'

July 17, 2004
By ROGER CATLIN
Courant TV Critic

The epochal end of "Friends" still chokes Matt LeBlanc up. "It was like
getting a divorce from someone you're still in love with," he says. "It
was very sad."

But while his cohorts went separate ways, LeBlanc, 37, was alone to
stick with both his character and his time slot with a spinoff that
continues the sitcom life of Joey Tribbiani.

In the new series that debuts on NBC Sept. 9, Joey, a struggling actor
who is still single, moves west to try his luck in Hollywood, moving in
with his sister, a hairdresser played by Drea de Matteo, and her young
son (Paulo Costanzo of "Road Trip," who in contrast to the show's
sometimes dense star is quite literally a rocket scientist).

Even with the strong new cast (which is still to sign an actress to play
his flirty, married neighbor) walking onto the set of "Joey" minus his
five "Friends," "was a little weird," LeBlanc told reporters gathering
in Los Angeles to hear about fall season's shows.

"I kept waiting for the door to open and Chandler to walk in and things
like that," he says. "And as the week went on, I really got comfortable
with these new voices there, and it feels like a place that we're going
to have a lot of fun.

"But," he says, "it was strange in the beginning."

Finally, he says, there's room for a little change in the character of
the lovable lunkhead the public knows so well and which earned him a
third Emmy nomination this week.

"I think a lot of times when you take a character from one show and spin
it off to another show, it seems like people change that character too
much and tweak it too much.

"Hopefully the guy will be exactly the same, there will just be more of
him," LeBlanc says.

There are a lot of directions to go, he says. "On `Friends' he was
probably the least evolved character. Whenever we would see holidays or
family events, it was always the Gellers or the Bings," he says,
referring to the parents of the other "Friends" characters.

"This is for me exciting to find out [about] this guy," LeBlanc says.
"I've spent 10 years in his shoes."

"He's still Joey, but he's going to grow," says executive producer Shana
Goldberg-Meehan, one of three writers of "Friends" who have stayed to
produce "Joey." "The goal is to keep him Joey, but more: expand. Because
I think Matt's right. There's a lot we don't know about him. And I'm
excited to see the stories about their past, what Joey was like as their
brother, what kind of things you needed to torture him growing up, this
sort of history we didn't really get to see on `Friends.'"

"There's a past and there's also a chance to see him in this new
environment," executive producer Scott Silveri says.

Fans already are talking about possible reunions with his old cast mates
on the show. But when the first of his former "Friends" visits the show,
it will be strictly behind the camera. "David Schwimmer will be
directing the sixth episode of the show," says executive producer and
director Kevin S. Bright. But he adds, "We hope to see the `Friends' in
the future."

For now, it's all about Joey. And the character's cross-country journey
is similar to the one he took when he left Boston for Los Angeles.

"It was an adjustment," LeBlanc says. "I think anyone that comes here,
it's an adjustment. It's kind of a different town. And that will be fun
to experience through his eyes."

Throw your own 'Friends' dance party
By Whitney Matheson, USATODAY.com

Now that we've copied their haircuts, imitated their outfits and
fine-tuned our Chandler impersonations, is there anything left to steal
from the Friends gang?
As a matter of fact, there is: the music. For your reading and listening
pleasure, we present a fantastic Friends mix tape, featuring songs from
the series.

The Perky Side (often heard during vacation episodes and gleeful
moments):

The Lion Sleeps Tonite, The Tokens— Nothing says "good time" like a
great oldie. As Friends fans may recall, this was Marcel the monkey's
choice groove; during the first season, viewers were subjected to it
more times than "How you doin'?"

Shiny Happy People, R.E.M.— Another monkey gem: Remember when the buds
had a New Year's Eve party and Ross introduced everyone to Marcel? You
don't? Well, it was a happy moment, indeed, although we'd characterize
it more "furry" than "shiny."

What's the Frequency, Kenneth?, R.E.M.— Apparently, Ross and Rachel were
big Michael Stipe fans back in the '90s. You might not remember hearing
this ditty, though, because it aired during the episode where George
Clooney and Noah Wyle guest-starred as hunky doctors.

The Rockafella Skank, Fatboy Slim— By this point on the CD, even Grandma
will be shaking her jelly, although she might not dig the song title.
Skank surfaced during the Friends episode when Ross moved into a new
apartment and wasn't invited to his neighbors' party. (As usual,
hilarity ensued.)

I'll Be There For You, The Rembrandts— Yeah, even a monkey could tell
you this is a fancy name for the theme song. Don't blare it too early in
the evening or your neighbors might alert the authorities.

London Calling, The Clash— Heard during the famous "Friends goes to
London" episode, this mix-tape staple helped set the mood — along with
Big Ben and those funny hats worn by the British Guards.

The Pouty Side (tunes you may recognize from breakup, disaster and baby
episodes):

Never There, Cake— It's particularly pleasing when we get to see a
Friends character at work, although these eps aren't generally as funny
as when they drink lattes, make fun of stuff and reminisce about the
'80s. This tune played on the episode when Rachel started working at
Ralph Lauren. For now, we'll pretend that was a totally realistic plot
device.

Don't Stand So Close to Me, The Police— Keen ears might have picked up
on this song during the series' first Thanksgiving episode. Unlike the
lyrics, the story line had nothing to do with a "wet bus stop" or "that
book by Nabokov."

Untitled, Interpol— This tune and a red light bulb will instantly turn
your living room into make-out country. On Friends, it was season nine's
cliffhanger song, heard as Joey and Rachel gave into their deepest,
ickiest desires.

With or Without You, U2— On TV, you associate it with the whole
Ross-Rachel-Julie love triangle. In real life, it reminds you of your
high-school prom date who stepped on your toes in the high-school
gymnasium. Ah, memories.

Wicked Game, Chris Isaak— When Friends become lovers, they listen to,
um, Chris Isaak. We heard this slow jam during the episode when Ross and
Rachel consummated their relationship at a museum exhibit.

Take a Bow, Madonna— We sure heard a bunch of music during Friends'
first season. This played during The One Where Rachel Finds Out (that
Ross is in love with her). Madge's lyrics pretty much reflect his
feelings.

Only Time, Enya— Any partygoer who isn't out the door by the time Enya
comes on the stereo better have a good excuse! (If you listen to this
mix on your Walkman, go ahead and silently rock out. We won't tell.)

Friends Fan of the Week

Email: xchic-@aol.com

Name: Mela D.

Age: 15

Location: Chicago, Illinois

Q: When did you start watching Friends?
A: When I was really little my mom would watch friends.  It really
didn't mean much to me at the time, until my mom started really getting
into it and still watching it as she got older.  About 3 years ago I
would sit down every Thursday night to watch the new episodes.  Now I
watch even the reruns.

Q: Why do you like it?
A:  I loved it.  Although at that point I didn't understand some of the
witty jokes they all made, but I guess that just made me want to keep
watching it.

Q: Who's Your Favorite Friend?
A:  Joey! He is just so funny and a really sweet person.  Chandler comes
pretty close, but I guess I go for the less-brained, because Phoebe is
my favorite "girl friend."

Q: Favorite episode?
A: I must have millions.  "The One Where No One's Ready" really stands
out because of Joey's performance as he does squats in Chandler's
clothes.  Also, from the recent ones, "The One With The Male Nanny" is
great because it really made me like Freddie Prince Jr., an actor, and
watching Rachel be so protective of Emma.  And, the one I taped is
another favorite, "The One Where Rachel Has a Baby (part 1 & 2),"
because it shows a hilarious side of Ross, that hasn't been seen much
before.

Q: How obsessed are u?
A: Obsessed.  I have a F*R*I*E*N*D*S folder which I keep in my bedroom.
In the folder it has pictures of the cast on magazine covers, articles
about the show, and interviews.  I have the complete 3rd season of
friends which I had to get the 2nd day it came out, and the 1st & 2nd
season of The Best Of Friends.  I have the "Jennifer Aniston-Rachel"
layered haircut, and repeat quotes all the time.  Quotes like, "How you
doin'?", "Could I be any funnier?!", or Monica's famous..."I know!!" all
come out of my mouth accidentally.  And of course, I watch every friends
episode when they are on TV each day.  From the reruns to the new ones.
Even on schooldays, when I shouldn't stay up to 10:30 to watch Friends,
I do. :)

Q: What is a Friends related fact that we should know about u?
A: I have a little bit of everybody in me.  Like Rachel, I love to ski.
As for the Joey in me, I'm not that fond of facts and would like to
become an actress.  And I will admit to using humor as a defense
mechanism, like Chandler. I also see an herbalist like Phoebe does (in
season 3, when she tells Ross to go to her herbalist to get his "thing"
removed).  And I have a brother, so when I watch Monica and Ross, I'm
always reminded of a fight that we had, whenever Monica and Ross fight.

Q: Have you been to a taping or met a Friend?
A: Sadly no and this being the last year, I wont be 18 by the end of the
year.  And as for the meeting of them...I hope to someday, is all that I
can say.

**thank you so much for the opportunity to fill this out, it actually
gave me a chance to see how F*R*I*E*N*D*S effects my life somehow, in an
overview. **** :) thanks.
