Aniston "Shocked" About Pitt and Jolie
By Julie Keller Tue Aug 2, 6:28 PM ET
Yahoo News

Jennifer Aniston has broken her silence.

The former Friend and current tabloid cover girl who is going through an
extremely public divorce with
Brad Pitt has finally opened about her breakup. Speaking to Vanity Fair,
Aniston says that she has been "shocked" over the whole Pitt and
Angelina Jolie saga.

"The world was shocked, and I was shocked," Aniston says in the
magazine's September issue about the revealing photos featuring her
soon-to-be ex and his Mr. and Mrs. Smith costar Jolie traipsing along an
African beach with Jolie's young son Maddox. "I'd be a robot if I said I
didn't feel moments of anger, of hurt, of embarrassment."

Pitt and Aniston separated in January, and Aniston filed for divorce in
March. Last Friday would have been their fifth anniversary.

In her first interview since the split, Aniston admits to seeking
therapy in recent months and says she is still struggling to cope. "Am I
lonely? Yes. Am I upset? Yes. Am I confused? Yes. Do I have my days when
I've thrown a little pity party for myself? Absolutely. But I'm also
doing really well."

Asked if she believed Pitt when he publicly stated he didn't hook up
with Jolie before he and Aniston broke up, Aniston says she is giving
Pitt the benefit of the doubt.

"I choose to believe my husband," she says. "At this point, I wouldn't
be surprised by anything, but I would much rather choose to believe
him."

But she says, "He makes his choices. He can do--whatever. We're [about
to be] divorced, and you can see why."

Aniston also fired back at reports that claimed her marriage ended
because she wasn't interested in having kids at a time when her career
is red-hot.

"A man divorcing would never be accused of choosing career over
children," the 36-year-old actress sniped to the magazine. "I never said
I didn't want to have children. I did, and I do, and I will!"

Also discussed in the interview, the photo shoot in W magazine that
featured Pitt and Jolie playing house. Aniston says that while she
thinks Pitt might have "a sensitivity chip that's missing" for taking
part in the session, Aniston says her former beau "is not mean-spirited;
he would never intentionally try to rub something in my face."

Adds Aniston: "I love Brad; I really love him. I will love him for the
rest of my life. He's a fantastic man. I really do hope that someday we
can be friends again."

That said, she manages to get in a final zinger about Pitt's new
bleach-blond hairdo, saying "Billy Idol called, he wants his look back."

JENNIFER ANISTON TALKS: ABOUT BRAD, ANGELINA, AND LIFE AFTER DIVORCE
Press Release

NEW YORK, N.Y.—In her first interview since her split from Brad Pitt,
Jennifer Aniston tells Vanity Fair contributing editor Leslie Bennetts
that when her marriage broke up, "the world was shocked and I was
shocked." But her feelings for her ex-husband remain. "I love Brad; I
really love him. I will love him for the rest of my life," she says.
"He's a fantastic man. I don't regret any of it, and I'm not going to
beat myself up about it. We spent seven very intense years together … a
beautiful, complicated relationship. The sad thing, for me, is the way
it's been reduced to a Hollywood cliché—or maybe it's just a human
cliché. I have a lot of compassion for everyone going through this … I
really do hope that someday we can be friends again."

Bennetts reports that Aniston is doing very well and during the
interview displayed her trademark sardonic humor, at one point saying of
her ex-husband's new blond dye job, "Billy Idol called—he wants his look
back."

When Bennetts asks Aniston about seeing the pictures of Pitt with
actress Angelina Jolie and her son, she says: "I can't say it was one of
the highlights of my year. Who would deal with that and say, 'Isn't that
sweet! That looks like fun!'? But shit happens. You joke and say, 'What
doesn't kill you makes you stronger.'"

Aniston tells Bennetts that she expected to spend the last year being
pregnant, and is angered by reports that the reason for their split was
that she didn't want to start a family. "A man divorcing would never be
accused of choosing career over children. That really pissed me off.
I've never in my life said I didn't want to have children," she says. "I
did and I do and I will! The women that inspire me are the ones who have
careers and children; why would I want to limit myself? I've always
wanted to have children, and I would never give up that experience for a
career. I want to have it all.

A mutual friend of the former couple tells Bennetts that having a baby
was never a priority for Brad, whereas for Jen, it was much more
immediate. "So is there a part of Brad that's diabolical?," asks the
friend. "Did he think, I need to get out of this marriage, but I want to
come out smelling like a rose, so I'm going to let Jen be cast as the
ultra-feminist and I'm going to get cast as the poor husband who
couldn't get a baby and so had to move on?"

"There's a sensitivity chip that's missing," Aniston says of her former
husband when asked about the W magazine portfolio in which Pitt and
Angelina Jolie play husband and wife. When Aniston learns from Bennetts
that Pitt retained the international rights, so that he actually
profited from it, her eyes widen in surprise and she grimaces. "I didn't
know that," Aniston says, but she refuses throughout the interview to
indulge herself in an angry reaction, or disparage her ex-husband,
according to Bennetts.

Aniston is not dating Vince Vaughn or anyone else, she tells Bennetts.
"I like a lot of people, but I am sooo not 'in like' with anybody. I am
really enjoying being by myself. I'm excited that I know there's
somebody out there for me, but I am absolutely in no rush. This is all
very fresh, very new. This was a seven-year relationship that was very
dear, very complicated, very special. I need to honor it."

Although Aniston is handling herself and the divorce very well, Bennetts
reports that she does not downplay the difficulties. Says Aniston, "Am I
lonely? Yes. Am I upset? Yes. Am I confused? Yes. Do I have my days when
I've thrown a little pity party for myself? Absolutely. But I'm also
doing really well."

The September issue of Vanity Fair hits newsstands on August 3 in New
York and Los Angeles and nationally on August 9.
