Grist for the Muse #24 - September 2005
The monthly creative writing resource that gets you writing and keeps you
writing.
Be regular and orderly in your life, so that you may be violent and
original in your work.
--Gustave Flaubert
Musings
I'm going to apologize in advance. This newsletter is breaking the first
commandment of newsletters "Thou Shalt Not Contain More Ads Than Content"
but there is a lot going on, so I'm breaking it this month. There are many
changes afoot.
I've spent the last couple of months getting "regular and orderly" in my
life. organizing my 3 full-size filing cabinets, building new bookshelves to
shelve the stacks of books cluttering my office, putting together marketing
materials for Flash Writing, JumpStart Jars, and my upcoming writing classes
and conference presentations, so housekeeping seems to have been my
obsession lately, so this is going to hopefully result in extreme creative
productivity for the next couple of months.
It is time to get serious about this newsletter. I need to make this
newsletter something that you all can count on and know that it will arrive
at a regular interval (kind of like a real newspaper or magazine), so I'm
going to go on record and state for all of you upfront that Grist for the
Muse will be published from now on - on the last Wednesday of each month,
which means you can count on seeing your next issue on Wednesday, September
28th.
I also am going to be updating the overall look of Grist over the next
couple of months. getting a new, custom designed logo. Oooh.. Ahhh! And I'm
going to update the overall layout of the newsletter so it is easier to read
and better suited to an online environment.
September is a crazy month for me. Not only do all three kids go back to
school, but Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, soccer and now Leah is starting band
this year (it is looking like she is going to play percussion. yikes). I
also am presenting at two writers conferences in the Cleveland area: The
22nd annual Western Reserve Writers and Freelance Conference on September
17th at Lakeland Community College

07.396078
<http://writing.shawguides.com/WesternReserveWritersFreelanceConference/?ci=
307.396078&pi=24&q=1> &pi=24&q=1 and the Skyline Writers Conference
http://www.skylinewriters.com/index.htm at the Jesuit Retreat House in Parma
on October 1st. So if you happen to be in that part of the state and don't
have any other plans, sign-up and say "hi!" I'd love to see you there.
