Preacher ... Have You Forgot Something?

Now the disciples had FORGOTTEN to take bread . . . --Mark 8:14

Aside from the parallel of a preacher forgetting to take the
BREAD of life, Jesus used this incident (8:15), in which the disciples
forgot the bread, to warn and teach them of something else about which they
might have forgotten. “LEAVEN!”

The Leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees

Take heed, beware of the LEAVEN of the Pharisees . .
.   --Mark 8:15

Take heed and beware of the LEAVEN of the Pharisees and of the
pharisees . . .
--Matt. 16:6

Then understood they how that he bade them not beware of the
leaven of bread, but of the DOCTRINE of the pharisees [hypocrisy] and of
the Sadducees [unbelief]. --Matt. 16:12

Beware ye the LEAVEN of the Pharisees, which is HYPOCRISY . .
. --Luke 12:1

Twentieth century, independent, fundamental Baptists have been
exposed to much more than the disciples, when it comes to being wary of the
Pharisees and Sadducees of our day. After all we have seen and heard of
much more hypocrisy and unbelief than the disciples had yet to experience.
The brethren of today, for the most part, understand the doctrine of the
Pharisees and the Sadducees (not that many of them ever do much about it
any more). The doctrines of hypocrisy (Pharisees) and unbelief (Sadducees)
are nothing new.

The Leaven of Herod

And he charged them saying, Take heed, beware   . . . of the
LEAVEN OF HEROD. -- Mark 8:15

Yes, preacher, you have forgotten something. You have
forgotten, or perhaps, you never knew of the leaven of Herod. You have
forgotten that it was Herod that sought to destroy the young Christ child
(Matt. 2:13). You have forgotten that Herod is unpredictable and able to be
influenced by the imps of hell as he was in John the Baptist’s case (Matt.
14:3). You have forgotten that the Pharisees took counsel with the
Herodians to destroy Christ (Mark 3:6). You have forgotten that it was
Herod and “his men, who set Christ at nought and mocked him (Luke 23:11).
You forgot that Herod stretches forth his hands to vex the church (Acts
12:1). Yes, preacher, you’ve forgotten that even with Herod’s leaven, a
little leaven leaveneth the whole lump of government.

Entanglement

. . . the same day Pilate and Herod were MADE FRIENDS TOGETHER
. . . --Luke 23:12

Only because of his hatred for Christ and Christianity did
Herod decide to join the U.N. and become more entangled with a foreign
government than he already was. And you have forgotten that. Oh, you
probably thought that the Herodians were only worldly people. You had not
realized how politically that they were involved and entangled.
What we do not see, in the Gospels nor the Book of Acts, are
Christian Herodians nor Herodian, Christian churches joined to the state.
It is not until the seven churches of Revelation that we do see such a
marriage union. The reason for such a union? Certain churches were not wary
of the leaven of Herod.
Now, here we are in the 21st century. We have two headed
(Christ and government) monster churches, incorporated under the laws and
policies of their respective states. By being incorporated, these churches
have agreed to abide by these laws and policies (which they were not
obligated to prior to incorporation) under penalty of law. You say that you
are not abiding by such policies and laws. Then, you are breaking the law
and your incorporation pledge. You must also answer Herod’s questions and
fill out Herod’s forms.
Pastor, did you know that, by law the highest leader of your
church is not you, unless you are the only trustee. It is your trustees
that are the leadership, who are recognized by Herod. Do you know by law
that you are required to keep accurate records, hold periodic business
meetings, and hand over your records, if Herod wants to see them. You must
also open your doors to whatever inspector Herod wants to send your way.
The nasty part of it all is that you have agreed to it all by incorporating
in the first place. Yes, pastor you’ve forgotten somethingthe LEAVEN of HEROD!
