SUPER AGGRESSIVE MEDDLERS
TAKE HEED therefore unto yourselves, and TO ALL THE FLOCK,
over the which the Holy Ghost bath made you overseers, to feed the church
of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood. For I know this, that
after my departing shall grievious WOLVES enter in AMONG YOU, NOT SPARING
THE FLOCK. Also of YOUR OWNSELVES shall men arise, speaking perverse
things, to DRAW AWAY disciples AFTER THEM. Therefore WATCH, and remember,
that by the space of three years I ceased not to warn everyone night and
day with TEARS. --Acts 20:28-31
. . .MARK them, which cause DIVISIONS and OFFENCES contrary to
the doctrine which ye have learned; and AVOID them. For they serve not our
Lord Jesus Christ, but their OWN BELLY; and by GOOD WORDS and FAIR SPEECHES
DECEIVE the hearts of the SIMPLE. --Rom. 1617, 18
But of those who SEEMED TO BE SOMEWHAT, (whatsoever they are,
it MAKETH NO MATTER TO ME: God accepteth NO MAN's PERSON:) for they who
SEEMED TO BE SOMEWHAT in conference ADDED NOTHING TO ME . . . --Gal 2:6
It has been the contention of this writer, from the onset of
the separation controversy, that pastors have the right (yea, the
injunction) to protect their flocks from any Super Aggressive, high
profile, Radio or T.V. "pastor," who would influence and manipulate their
flocks (regardless whether they are fundamentalist or conservative brothers
or not). We are told, regarding those who would not spare our flocks, to
watch and remember Paul's warnings and APOSTASY TEARS (as opposed to soul
winning tears). Paul knew that there would be a propensity for even
Neo-fundamentalists, both inside and outside, to meddle with our flocks and
to draw away disciples after them.
Our suspicions and contentions are confirmed as we listen to
popular media preachers meddle with the congregations of others. One such
pastor first talked about love (You can put almost anything over these
days, if you talk about love and tolerance) and then bemoaned the criticism
of important brethren who are doing great works for God. He then related a
story of a preacher, who dared criticize one of these important men and how
the critical preacher's congregation shrunk by a few hundred people
(evidence of the denominational power and influence some have over our
churches), Then this preacher, looking for a few more hundred, stated
repeatedly the subtle hint that "good people" do not stay in that kind
of a church.
Many folks will not perceive the dirty underhanded tactics
that are used in the name of love, and many, no doubt, will be snookered
and respond to such suggestions. However, many of us have been around a
while and have affiliated in organized fellowships, associations, and
conventions in the past and have no trouble understanding how the Vatican
sends a message. Some of us have witnessed good friends, who succumbed to
similar messages of intimidation. The "If they're big, they're right"
syndrome, and the political ability of the big shots go a long way to help
or hurt their lackeys into doing their bidding.
The spirit of double mindedness has so infected the brethren
that it is hard to find someone you can trust, who will not sell you down
the river for the sake of expediency or favor of the denominational
Maharajah-Hoo-Hoos that they say they do not have. The double-tongued,
meddler brethren abound, telling the conservative brethren one thing and
the moderate and liberal brethren another as they maneuver their futures in
the movement.
What shall Independent New Testament Baptist preachers do? Let
them serve notice on Appolos that he can preach his Gospel, win his souls,
build his colleges, fight homosexuality, clean up America (with Elizabeth
Taylor, cussin' Kentucky Sanders, the Black Panther that was saved by
looking at the moon, and Ted Kennedy by his side), but he is to keep his
cotton pickin' hands off of our flocks. If he doesn't, let him understand
that his dirty, apostasy laundry will continue to be aired, and if we lose
them, we lose them.
Moreover, let him know that New Testament Baptist preachers
are not going to sit idly by, while meddlers manipulate their weaker
people, who have not learned that Appolos is NOTHING (1 Cor. 3:7) and that
even David had his Nathan and Peter his Paul and that they can be withstood
to their face, when they are to be blamed (Gal. 2:11) and that "these who
seemed to be somewhat, (whatsoever they were, it maketh no matter to me:
God accepteth no man's person:) . . . who seemed to be somewhat . . .
added NOTHING to me . . ." (Gal. 2:6), and that even an elder may be
accused before two witnesses (1 Tim. 5:l9). Does I have a witness?
Let us also serve notice on Appolos, regardless of how big he
is, that he does not dictate to us nor our people. We do not need his
approval, recommendation, promotional, nor political help. Let him
understand that if he meddles with our people through the printed page or
through the radio or T.V., we have an injunction to "mark them which cause
divisions and offenses (whether they be fundamental brothers or no)
contrary to the doctrine ye have learned; and avoid them" (Rom. 16:17).
MARK in the original Greek means to MARK, and AVOID means to AVOID. This is
not referring to only unbelievers but refers to anyone who would deceive
our simple away from the Bible doctrine that they have learned by using
"good words and fair speeches" on them (Rom. 16:18). Let Appolos know that
we are tired of personable personalities that seek national notoriety and
the financial support from members of our congregations.
When the dust finally settles on this issue and we are proven
right, we intend to remember those who have sold us out and become lackeys
and promoters of those, who are clearly NEO. It will be a long time before
we trust them again.
