NATIONAL LAKESHORE’S MAPLE SUGAR TIME FESTIVAL RETURNS
The time is fast approaching for Indiana Dunes National
Lakeshore’s 26th annual Maple Sugar Time Festival. Beginning at 10:00
a.m., March 6 & 7 and 13 & 14, the Chellberg Farm will be bustling with
A tour of the site leads you through the maple sugar processing
methods of American Indians, pioneers and the Chellberg family. Park
ranger and volunteers will demonstrate methods used by each generation
to tap trees and boil the sap. This year all Festival activities will
be at the Chellberg Farm site.
Guided tours will be offered from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. each
morning of the festival. After noon, visitors can enjoy a self-guided
tour while park rangers and costumed volunteers staff each site.
All activities are free, however there is a $3.00 parking fee
for cars and a $20.00 fee for buses. This event is cosponsored by the
National Park Service and the Friends of Indiana Dunes, Inc.
The Chellberg Farm is located on Mineral Springs Road between
highways U.S. 20 and U.S. 12. For more information on this or other
