New Art Program for all ages at the Dunes
Porter, IN. Spend the day sketching or painting the sights, sounds and
smells of Chellberg Farm or capture the beauty of an early summer
wildflower along one of the dunes trails. Artists of all ages are
invited to join in the first Paint Out in the Dunes, Saturday, June 5
from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore. This event,
sponsored by the Friends of the Indiana Dunes, is designed to encourage
artists to use the park for inspiration and will include judging and
prizes of finished art pieces at the end of the day.
In addition to the artists themselves, visitors are welcome to tour the
Paint Out site and watch the artisans at work. A ranger-led hike along
the Little Calumet River, focusing on art in nature will be conducted at
10 a.m., Saturday, June 5 to coincide with the Paint-out. Visitors
wanting to participate in the hike should meet at the Bailly/Chellberg
Contact Station located near the parking lot.
Participants must pre-register to be judged in the paint-out and pay a
$7 fee for individuals or $12 for families. On the day of the event,
Paint Out artists must check-in at the Bailly/Chellberg picnic shelter
located near the parking lot on Mineral Springs Road in Porter, IN.
Artists will be on-site working from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. when they must
turn in their work for the competition. Judging will take place from
2-3 p.m., and awards will be announced at 3 p.m. Local artists will be
