DOMESTIC WORKERS JOIN GLOBAL DAY OF ACTION

Under the banner of "Another World is Possible" members of the National
Domestic Workers Alliance will take part in the Global Day of Action. On
January 26th, organizations and social movements will mobilize in their
local communities around the impact of neoliberal globalization. Member
organizations of the Alliance, in cities like
San Francisco, New York, the DC Metropolitan Area, and Los Angeles will
mobilize to bring attention to the plight of domestic workers in the
United States and all over the World. The National Domestic
Workers Alliance was founded at the first ever US Social Forum in
Atlanta, Georgia in 2007.

Domestic Workers United [DWU] in New York will join the global action,
in a screening of "Work and Respect," a short documentary about domestic
workers in New York produced by Third World Newsreel and DWU.
Following the screening, domestic workers will share their stories and
launch the 2008 campaign to establish labor standards for domestic
workers in New York, the campaign for the Domestic Workers Bill of
Rights. Participants will include domestic workers and organizers from
New York, Europe, Maryland and Indonesia.

At the same time, millions of people all over the world will march,
speak, celebrate, and dialogue in villages, rural zones, and urban
centers. They will mobilize on the date of the 26th of January to
coincide the Global Day of Mobilization and Action with the World
Economic Forum held in Davos, Switzerland to confront this important
neo-liberal gathering of the elites.
