1:00 Responding to Immigration Raids*: Presentation on Unidad Latina en Accion's response to New Haven raids.
1:15 Developing a Rapid Response Network for Immigration Raids: Immigration raids create a host of needs that must be addressed: legal representation is essential; affected families require assistance and support in accessing important government and social services; and individuals at risk must know their rights and be connected with effective resources. The response should be community-based, organized and collaborative. The goal of this session will be to develop the basis for such rapid-response networks in Connecticut's major regions. Participants will form working groups based on residence and service area, and will work to identify resources to address the issues that arise before, during, and after an immigration raid.
2:45 Break
3:00 Models for Organization*: Panel discussion by various organizations that have successfully organized to preserve and protect the rights of immigrant workers. Panelists will include immigrant workers, representatives from an immigrant community group, a union, a worker center, and a legal wage clinic.
4:15 Closing Remarks*
4:30 Conference Adjourned
* Indicated sessions will be translated for participants in Spanish.
The conference is free to all participants. Donations, however, are welcome, and should be made payable to "IWCC". Come join us for an interesting, practical and event-filled day!
