Full-Time Bilingual Education Advocacy Coordinator

The New Jersey Immigration Policy Network (NJIPN) announces an opening for a Full-Time Bilingual Education Advocacy Coordinator position.  NJIPN is a broad-based coalition of New Jersey organizations dedicated to protecting immigrant rights and promoting inclusiveness and full participation of immigrants in the life of our community.  The Bilingual Education Advocacy Coordinator will be responsible for implementing advocacy, community outreach, and training programs for A Voice for Immigrants in Education Project.  

The primary initial project will involve establishing, through training programs, Bilingual Parental Advisory Committees in targeted school districts in New Jersey (see N.J.A.C. 6A:15-1.6(c))

The Bilingual Education Advocacy Coordinator, reporting directly to the Executive Director of NJIPN, and in collaboration with other non-profit agencies, parents, immigrant and education advocacy groups, educators, and professional organizations throughout New Jersey.  Responsibilities include: maintaining and growing partnerships and collaborations with a cross-section of immigrant advocacy groups, parents, teachers, administrators and government officials; organizing advocacy efforts; and implementing all grant activities. Candidate must be an excellent written and oral communicator, with significant bilingual/multicultural skills.  A background in organizing or public service, strong leadership and outreach skills with the ability to function in cross-cultural settings is essential. A working relationship with New Jersey's public education community is preferred.  Candidate should have a Bachelors degree (Master's degree is preferred), or experienced equivalent, and at least five years of experience in some combination of education, advocacy, public service, organizing, or multicultural training.  Position starts February 15, 2008.  Competitive salary/benefits; must be able to drive throughout New Jersey.
