A few people have asked me about Alfonso ("update on Alfonso & the
twilight zone", 06/27/03) these past few months... Alfonso died just
over a week ago, in Denver.

Otherwise, wierdness is the order of the day, everyday, as usual. This
should have been a very cold, very snowy winter here, according to all
the signs I ordinarily count on. The deer were very dark in the fall, &
had much more fat than usual(indicating a cold winter). The coyotes, &
all other wildlife in the area, also had thick coats early-on. The one
wooly caterpillar I saw was nearly completely black, only a thin line of
orange (which is supposed to predict a cold winter). The plant that's
supposed to tell you how much snow to expect, Peji Hcaka (aka, Western
wheatgrass), was as tall as Mecate at the end of the growing season.
Yet, we only got more, barely more, than 2 inches accumulation on two
different occasions so far. The bitter cold one expects in the
"Badlands" only came twice, & only lasted for a few days each time. The
robins & bluebirds should have migrated by October, but hung around
until January. And, the crows, who should just about be on their way
back here, never even left at all! Everyone's confused. Oh, & there's a
UFO hanging around too.
