Dan,
Have you seen those SQWD units for sale in the UK? If so, where?
Also, is anybody using them? Comments?
Regards
Andrew

Matt,
My setup is pretty much the same & I've often been plagued by algae problems
in the past.
I'm not verry good at water changes. This is my main cause I think.
:-(
(Incidentally I think Ive bust my RO membrane - second post to follow...)
Rowaphos is fantastic for removing phosphate IMHO.I run with a load
continiously in the sump.
The biggest resolution I found was to add calc to my auto topup water.
Raising the calcium fixes phosphates so there's less available for algaes. I
initially had a significant algae die off. The only problems Ive got now are
small cyno issues & I'm confident these will be resolved once I start up
water changes more regularly. My top-up reservoir is about 5gallons & lasts
anything from 1 to 2 weeks, so it's easy to maintain.
Regarding water movement...as well as my 1060 return (which pumps to a head
of nearly 2m & has done so reliably for nearly 3 years constant!!!) Ive got
three powerheads in the main tank (about 1,500lph in addition to sump
return) but Ive been thinking about replacing these with another eheim 1060
running a fixed loop for the top tank. I don't think ive got enough water
movement at present & I was thinking about getting one of these SQWD (?)
units for mechanical direction switching.
Maybe after bonus time !
;-)
Dan
