Its all a matter of nutrients, if you grow something like Calpera then the
macro
algae {once established} will out compete the other algae for nutrients...
Out of interest are you using R/O water in your water changes? If not then
you might
just be bringing extra food for your Algae.
My advice would be to cut down the lighting on the main tank and get some
calpera going...
Also what's your tanks bio-loads? 3000 fish or 3???
Also what lights do you use and when did you last change them? Old tubes
grown algae like you wouldn't believe...

PS: I wouldn't grow calpera in your main tank, once its got going its
difficult to get rid of!
It tends to grown everywhere like bind weed !!! Setup a sump and grow it
there...
